Jay-Z sues baseball player David Ortiz over club name
Hip-hop entrepreneur Jay-Z and his business partner, Juan Perez, are suing Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz for allegedly naming a Dominican Republic nightclub after their chain of 40/40 Club sports bar lounges, according to Reuters. In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan federal court, Jay-Z and Perez — who own 40/40 Clubs in New York City, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas — accused Ortiz of infringing upon the name when the baseball player opened his own Forty/Forty club in Santo Domingo. “David Ortiz is fully aware of plaintiff’s Manhattan 40/40 Club, since he had been a patron there on several occasions long before he opened his infringing Forty/Forty Club,” said the lawsuit.
Bret Michaels released from hospital
Poison rocker (and Celebrity Apprentice participant) Bret Michaels was released from Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Westover Hills in San Antonio, Tex. today after an emergency appendectomy, People reports. A diabetic, he first arrived at the hospital on Monday after suffering from stomach pains originally thought to be signs of the stomach flu.
He was set to perform at SeaWorld San Antonio for their Bands, Brew & BBQ concert. It’s been postponed to Oct. 1.
UPDATE: Michaels is now in recovery in a facility for diabetics, People reports.
Cannes Film Festival 2010 lineup announced
The lineup has been revealed for the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, which takes place May 12-23. The 63rd annual festival will open with Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe, and feature out-of-competition screenings of Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, which stars Naomi Watts, Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, and Anthony Hopkins, and Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, starring Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas. Tuesday’s season premiere of the Deadliest Catch attracted the show’s biggest ever audience, according to the Hollywood Reporter. 4.6m viewers saw the first episode of the sixth season. One reason for the high ratings was doubtless the tragic death of star Phil Harris who passed away in February after suffering a massive stroke.

Melissa and Tammy Etheridge have separated, according to People. Steven Seagal's 'Lawman' series production halted
Following news that a sexual harassment and illegal sex trafficking lawsuit had been filed against Steven Seagal, production on the actor’s A&E reality series, Steven Seagal Lawman, has been halted. According to Variety, a sheriff of Jefferson Parish in Louisiana was responsible for stopping production on the show, which followed the actor as he worked as a deputy reserve sheriff in the area. In a statement obtained by Variety, A&E said, “We are aware of Sheriff [Newell] Normand’s decision to halt production on Steven Seagal Lawman at this time and we have no further comment.”
Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva going separate ways
According to People, Mel Gibson and girlfriend of one year Oksana Grigorieva are splitting. The former couple have a five-month-old daughter, Lucia.
