Vanessa Redgrave’s actor-activist brother, Corin, died today at the age of 70 at home in England, Reuters reports. “He was taken ill at home in the early hours of Sunday morning,” a statement from his widow, Kika Markham, said. “He died very peacefully surrounded by his family. We will miss him so very much.” After his first stage role at the Royal Court in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Redgrave went on to star in films A Man for All Seasons, Excalibur, and Four Weddings and a Funeral. He was also active in left-wing politics in the UK, launching a political party in 2004 as a reaction to the war on terror, which he said abused human rights. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2000 and suffered a heart attack in 2005 while speaking at a rally, but returned to acting last year.
'Desperate Housewives' star Nicollette Sheridan suing series creator Marc Cherry for assault and battery
Image Credit: Danny Feld/ABCAs first reported by TMZ.com, former Desperate Housewives actress Nicollette Sheridan is suing series creator Marc Cherry on charges of assault and battery, gender violence, wrongful termination, and “intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
In the suit, obtained by EW, Sheridan alleges that Cherry created a “hostile work environment,” regularly “demeaning” writers and staff, and behaving in a “dismissive, demeaning, and unprofessional manner” towards her both on and off set.
She claims that on September 24, 2008, after she questioned something in the script, Cherry took her aside and “forcefully hit her with his hand across her face and head.” Although Sheridan immediately complained to ABC, she claims no action was taken. The legal papers paint Cherry as someone who became hostile to those who “questioned his authority,” and Sheridan claims her complaints led directly to her termination. What’s more, the suit says, Cherry reportedly told third parties that “he hoped Sheridan would be distraught as a result of the termination.”
In a separate incident cited by way of example, Cherry allegedly once responded to Housewives co-star Teri Hatcher’s complaints to the network by saying, “I hope Teri Hatcher gets hit by a car and dies.”
Sheridan is seeking $20 million.
ABC Studios has responded to the suit with the following statement: “While we have yet to see the actual complaint, we investigated similar claims made by Ms. Sheridan last year and found them to be without merit.”

Report says Conrad Murray defense may claim Michael Jackson killed himself; judge assigned in case
TMZ.com reports that multiple unnamed sources say Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter in the singer’s death, will present a legal defense that claims Jackson injected himself with the fatal dose of Propofol after suddenly awakening while the doctor was in the bathroom. Murray’s lawyer, Ed Chernoff, could not be reached for comment, but a rep for Murray tells EW the report is not true. “That is in no way indicative of what we are going to be presenting in court,” Miranda Sevcik, a spokesperson for Murray and h Chernoff, tells EW.
Several of Jackon’s family members are expected in court Monday afternoon for a procedural hearing that will set a judge for the case and set a preliminary hearing date. The hearing will also address a medical board request to revoke Murray’s license.
UPDATE, 5:09 p.m. PT: Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor has been named as the judge in the trial, according to Reuters, and set a June 14 date to determine a preliminary hearing date and determine whether Dr. Murray will retain his medical license in the state of California.

John Malkovich seeking to recover $2.2 million from Bernie Madoff
John Malkovich is seeking to reclaim $2.2 million from the liquidation of the securities firm formerly run by Bernard “Bernie” Madoff, Reuters reports. Malkovich, a former client of the infamous Ponzi schemer, argued in a Thursday filling in NYC that his trust deserved the amount of money reflected on its final Nov. 30, 2008 statement — 11 days prior to Madoff’s arrest. “A customer generally expects to receive what he believes is in his account at the time the stockbroker ceases business,” the trust argued in its filing. However, on March 1, the trustee liquidating Madoff’s firm awarded only $670,000 to Malkovich, arguing that this amount represented the account’s “net equity,” or the difference between what an investor put into a firm and what he or she ultimately took out. The Malkovich trust is appealing the decision to a federal appeals court in New York. Madoff is currently serving a 150-year prison sentence.
