London coroner Paul Knapman has ruled that fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s death was a suicide, according to the AP. McQueen’s body was found in his apartment in the British capital last February. The coroner’s court declared the cause of the 40-year-old designer’s death was asphyxiation and hanging. A toxicology report found that McQueen had ingested a “substantial” amount of cocaine and sleeping pills before his death. “It seems that he had a history of self-harm and, no doubt fueled by cocaine, he resorted to desperate measures to end his life,” said Knapman of the designer, who committed suicide on the eve of his mother’s funeral. McQueen’s celebrity clients included Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Victoria Beckham.
