UPDATE: Bret Michaels still in critical condition, according to his official website

Bret-Michaels-hospitalImage Credit: Jason Merritt/Getty ImagesUPDATE (4/25): Bret Michaels’ official website posted a new message on Sunday: “Everyone at Michaels Entertainment would like to thank all fans and friends for their continued thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

At this point Bret remains in ICU in critical condition. He is under 24 hour doctors’ care and supervision. We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which has still not been located. As we all know Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc. will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.”

ORIGINAL POST (4/24): Despite reports that claimed his status may have stabilized, rocker Bret Michaels’ official website says that the rocker, who was hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage on Thursday, is still in critical condition. A brief statement on the site says, “There are several incorrect reports on Bret’s condition. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location. Further tests are being ran and information will be updated in the coming days.”

Michaels was rushed to the hospital on Thursday night and reportedly suffered from a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage. A source told People, “After several CAT scans, MRIs, and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause. [It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation.”

This most recent hospital stay comes only 11 days after Michaels underwent an emergency appendectomy in San Antonio, Tex.

      To Bret and his family,
Bret, I’m a fan from Asia. Poison was one of my favorite rock bands when I was so young. I’m hoping you’ll get well soon. Please be strong. You have been loved.

  • PNK

How old is Bret? He is under 60, right?

    • Kandice

I think Bret is like 46 or 47, something like that. He looks young. I wonder if he will be able to pull through it because he has severe diabetes (childhood) which is rare. Most people I know get it as adults and he’s had to deal with it since childhood.

      • kunt

bret looks well over 47. he looks at least 55. prob 60

      • Jessica

Just because someone has diabetes since childhood does not mean they are a “severe” diabetic. There are millions of people with Type I Diabetes. It is not at all rare. He actually has been in good health from reports with his diabetes. I have Type I diabetes which is insulin dependent, and also referred to as Juvenile Diabetes. What is rare is for people to have Type 1 Diabetes after childhood.

      • Melissa

Childhood diabetes is NOT rare. It is a predisposed genetic condition, type 2 diabetes is environmental brought on by lifestyle. The are many children with Juvenile Diabetes check out JDF.org

      • miss manners

Unfortunatly Childhood diabetes is in no way rare.Juvenile onset diabetes is a growing disease in this country but certainly not rare.

      • ellen

Type 1 juvenile diabetes is no way a rare condition.

      • mr atc

Bret…does not look like he is over 47 and certainly not lookin’ 60! Bet u drank your hater aide today!

      • C

Type 1 diabetes does NOT go away after childhood

      • Goldcoaster

Bret is 47.Why do some people make such ingnorant and nasty comments on the internet? He works out and looks great. For someone to say he looks 60, they must be a child with no idea how to guess a middle aged person’s age.

      • Delia

        Bret is 47.

      • Laurie

Unfortunately, this is a complication of uncontrolled diabetes. My brother had his stroke at age 26. It took this major life change which he miraculously survived to make him take responsibility for his disease. They said he’d live five years, tops. He will be 48 in July because he made drastic changes in his diet, his blood sugar readings, and his total approach to taking care of himself. He has lived 22 years. He is paralyzed on the left side. There are struggles and complications. He has made the change and values his life and each day he is given.

This MUST be an “A-ha!” moment for Bret and he MUST change how he cares for himself and his diabetes. He MUST make the changes necessary to survive- much less survive with any hope of recovering any part of his former life. A massive bleed at the brain stem is doing irreparable damage. He can recover some uses of his body, perhaps. He’ll have to relearn to do many things. God blees him and his family…

      • besimon

Laurie – didn’t he get hit in the head by some prop during an awards show. It could be a complication from that. I think that’s why the docs say they’re trying to locate the source. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

    • Casey

Do you honestly think that he could be over 60 PNK? Come on.

      • stlrgrl64

He is 47 not even close to 60. Prayers out to ya Bret!

    • michele

      47

      • julia

Come on, don’t you people think that this might have something to do with his appendectomy several weeks ago and this might need to be checked into now with what is going on with his brain hemorrhage

    • Kathy

I had a brother that passed away instantly from the same type of subarachnoid hemorrhage. He was only 37. It can happen because of a genetic weakness in the arterial wall, or could be caused by an earlier injury that causes a weak spot. Sometimes it can be caught with a brain scan, but often not. My brother’s only symptoms were massive headaches that would come on suddenly for no apparent reason. I always wish that I had pestered him to go to the doctor to find out what was causing them. I hope Bret is okay.

      • cynthia

Did’nt he hit his head not too long ago on a t.v. show by a billboard type sign as he was coming out on stage? He seemed to have it hit his head pretty hard. Our prayers are with you Bret, God Bless you

      • Chloe

I seem to remember that, too, Cynthia. Didn’t he fall or seomthing recently during one of his concerts? This curtain situation may be a cause from that. Just because you CT scan comes out normal right after a head injury doesn’t mean that a slow bleed hasn’t started. Happened to a friend of mine. Had a car accident, hit her head and her scan came out normal but 3 months later, she started exhibiting symptoms of a stroke. A trip to the ER and another scan showed a leak in the brain where she hit her head in the accident!!

        Prayers are with you, Bret!

      • Elle

It was the Tony Awards last year. He was finishing a set in the opening number. No one’s quite sure if Bret missed his marker or the piece came down faster than it was supposed to. Hope he’s okay soon!

      • lori

I too lost my husband tim at 37 from this he had no symptoms I thought for a minute there you were his sister as he had a sister kathy. The brain stem is the worst place to have an anurysm but I know immediate care is neccessary which is what he is getting bret is in our thoughts.

      • Tammy

if Brett has known his condition all his life then he is well aware of it ans Brett has taken care of him self it’s not about his age or his looks it’s about his health and if any one is a true fan of brett they should be praying he comes out of the hospital in good condition and maintain his health conditions, I don’t know him personally but what I’ve seen he is a people person and he’s great just pray for him and god will be on his side.

      • Melanie

Kathy, So sorry to hear about your 37 year old brother. My mother who was only 73 had the same thing happen after she took a fall (tripped over something) while working outside. They say it can happen that they turn around and the first days are the most critical. He is such a strong personality and a big huge spirit, I am praying he is able to recover.

      • ALI

        SALAM ABJH

    • Victor Nunez

His 47 years..We are praying for a fast recovery.

    • Anita

He’s 47 — same age as me. Praying for you Bret. Get well and do it in time to finish kicking butt on Celebrity Apprentice. I’m not just praying for you, I’m also rooting for you. God Bless and Get Well!

      • Miracle

Wait, I cannot fathom it being so striahgtofwrard.

    • Melanie

      he is 46

      • James

He’s 47 me and him were both born March 15, 1963

    • St pooch

Yeah his band the Poison’s songs hit on the top chart less than 60 of them but somehow most of them hit so hard to many people. THE POISON! ROCKs!!

      • MARY

BRET IS 47. I GREW UP WITH HIM IN PITTSBURGH. PEOPLE WITH NEGATIVE COMMENTS SHOULD KEEP SILENT RIGHT NOW. IF IT WAS YOUR FAMILY MEMBER, WOULD YOU APPRECIATE NEGATIVITY? WHAT HE NEEDS RIGHT NOW ARE PRAYERS AND SUPPORT. HE HAS TWO BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS THAT NEED THEIR DADDY TO SURVIVE THIS HORRIFIC TRAGEDY. IF YOU THINK 47 IS OLD, I’M SORRY TO HEAR THAT BECAUSE YOU WILL HIT THAT AGE EVENTUALLY AND FIND OUT THAT 47 ISN’T AS “OLD” AS YOU THINK NOW. HE LOOKS FANTASTIC FOR HIS AGE, AS A MATTER OF FACT HE LOOKS BETTER NOW THEN WHAT HE DID WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER. GOD BE WITH YOU BRET! MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

      • D-Con

MARY IS RIGHT- this is not a time to be trolling (which I like to do sometimes on stupid subjects like who is going to win Idol, it can be funny and a good stress relief) when someone is lying in hospital in critical condition it is inappropriate to be trying get people riled up with rude & insensitive comments, if you want to do that get on any of the Idol boards, those people love to argue. Brett and his family deserve respect and dignity while his life is at risk, not stupidity. I was never really a big Poison fan but have become a big fan of Brett as a human being from watching him on Apprentice. He works hard every week, comes up with great ideas creatively, doesn’t get into the petty arguing that some of the others seem to thrive on and he is just an all around decent dude from what I can see. I will be praying for him to have a speedy and full recovery and everyone else should be doing the same. Get better brother.

    • Angela

      Bret is 47 years old.

    • heather

  • PNK

Ok, I found out, he is 47.

    • KAREN

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE HOW OLD HE IS LETS JUST ALL KEEP HIM IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AND PRAY TO GOD THAT HE PULLS THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE ORDEAL. I LOVE YOU BRET. I AM A BIG FAN …..MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. XXXXXX

      • nenua

Yeah, I just found out, he’s 47. Looks good for his age, too. My prayers are with him and his family. Hope you get better soon, Brett.

  • Peggy

Not a big fan, but I sure hope he recovers soon. I know “Celebrity Apprentice” is recorded, but I wonder if there will be some kind of mention about him at the end of this weeks episode.

    • Kandice

Peggy, yeah I was wondering about that too. I wonder how many episodes they already PRE-RECORDED or if they will take it OFF the AIR?? Just until he pulls through. If he doesn’t, I would think they would not continue with the show being on the air. It’s weird to think that the LAST VIDEO footage of Bret would be the Apprentice show. Man, I hope he makes it out of this okay. I really do.

      • ddel

I think the whole thing is recorded except for the live finale.

Sure hope Bret can be at the finale.

      • Kelli

It is pre-recorded all the way until the final episode. I was wondering what they were going to do tomorrow night as well. I suppose we will have to watch to find out.

      • melanie

Absolutely hope he pulls through. Many prayers, and good thoughts being sent. I do have to say though that, God forbid, it is his last appearance, then better the apprentice show than that Rock of Love thing! OY!

      • ogram

“OFF” the air? And have them loose the money they already have made on adds? Now, more people will watch “The Celebrity Apprentice” and that means even more money off a tragedy.
Prayers are with Bret and his children… This will make The Trump even more rich; sad but true.

      • Tally

I think they should have either Johnson or Strawberry come back and play for the JUVENILE DIABETES FOUNDATION FOR Bret..That is what a FRIEND would do, and it would mean the world to that fella! SOMEBODY step in in his name.Trump might like that..get a ratings skyrocket, but it would also be the RIGHT thing to do..(I’m Type 1 37 years..I know what that boy has been thru..GOD BLESS HIM!)

  • Jami

Stay as strong as I know you are Bret. Hug.
    Jami

    • Kandice

Yea, I was shocked about Bret Michaels condition.

    • terri

My thoughts abd prayers are with Bret and his family. You are strong and you can beat tis.

  • sheree banks

Get well Brett , you are in my thoughts and prayers.

    • Gladis

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hrpemaed by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

  • Kandice

I wanted to say that I only liked one song by Poison, and didn’t like Bret’s reality show he did TWICE trying to find a floosy, but I did watch it. And on Celebrity Apprentice, he sort of looked kind of dumb in trying to help on each task, but he showed a vulnerable side to him when he cried about his child maybe having diabetes. I think the show/stress of Apprentice may have contributed to his condition. Because when I found out, wow, I was floored. Peace and prayers to the Michaels family.

    • Robin

Why are you taking the time to comment if you are going to criticize Bret. I love you Bret. I hope you get better soon!

      • brandy

I agree, this is not the time to criticize Bret! that was a waste of time and space…hope that makes u feel better to put him down in his condition! love you Bret..Get well soon..Lots of prayers!!!!

    • Karma

there were 3 seasons of rock of love … 1 and 2 and then love bus.

    • dj

Kandice, what do you do for a living? You have know clue about Celebrity Apprentice. If you did, you would know that Bret was a Project Mgr. on the first show, and he raised more money than anybody else on that show… ever! He is actually very smart, and it comes out in the show. You are S. I wish him well My guess is that Brett and Sharon will come up as the reamining two on that show. So much for judging those that are in the rock industry. Maybe, you should watch Elmo. I bet you find him intelligent simply because you can relate.

      • dj

cough my own typo… “no” clue

      • pat

I am not really a rock fan didn’t really listen to Poison, but I have been watching Celebrity Apprenitice and I think Bret is a great player…I also think he may be one of the top finalist…Sorry to hear about his illness…Please know that our prayers and hopes are with you and Gods hands are on you… take care and hope you know that everone is praying for you and your family…..pat

    • Are you for Real?

Everyone can’t even get his name right. It’s Bret not Brett, not Bert.

God Bless you Bret, get well!!

  • Ann

Bret we will keep praying for you and your wife and kids. Hope you get better soon.

  • Brandi

Most likely he suffered from a travelling blood clot following the surgery he had 11 days prior to this.

    • christi

Probably not Brandi. He has a hemorrhage, not a stroke. His clotting could have been off because of the surger and his diabetes, but that would be rare.

      • abrn

A subarachnoid hemorrhage is a stroke. Just some FYI, and if it is at or near his brain stem as I heard it reported previously, the prognosis is not good. Miracles happen. May God’s peace and blessings be with him and his family.

      • Jessica

Last year if I am not mistaken wasn’t he hit in the head with some stage equipment as he was he leaving the stage. It could be possible that have caused issues since it can happen from previous injuries.

      • Lisa

A subarachnoid hemorrhage is not a stroke, it is most often the result of an aneurysm – which is a congenital birth defect. The other reason for SAH is an acute head injury. There is such a thing as an hemorrhagic stroke, but that almost always remains in the subdural layer.

      • Jane

Lisa, Yes a sub arac hem is a stroke. Predominantly a bleed in the brain is a type of stroke whether it is brought on by trauma or genetics. I suffered a SAH due to aneurysm in the area of the brain called the Circle Of Willis. Besides that area, which is very bad, having one at the brain stem is very very bad. I was lucky to be in a medical facility when it happened, I hope he gets a miracle, like I did, because he surely needs one! That area of the brain is usually inoperable unless he gets a fantastic surgeon with impeccable skill. I am hoping they can get to the area and put a stent in because open brain surgery is much harder to recover from and can cause other problems such as nerve damage, which I have, which causes severe headaches on a daily basis. Only a very small percentage of people who hemorrhage survive. I am praying there is limited damage caused by the pressure on the brain from all the blood trapped in limited space. The best any of us can do for him now is pray he has the best doctors taking care of him and that he will have a complete recovery.

Wishing Bret a complete and speedy recovery and strength for his family. It is highly doubtful he will be able to return to the apprentice this season. I think “The Donald” should end the show now and declare him the winner and give money to Brets cause, Diabetes and an equal amount to research into Brain/Neurological research especially for aneurysm !
