I love David Hyde Pierce, don’t get me wrong, but this award really needs to go to Gavin Creel. He co-founded an organization, Broadway Impact, that has raised millions of dollars for gay rights. He and the company of HAIR fundraised enough money to send 2 huge buses of people to DC from NYC last October for the March on Washington. I love me some Niles Crane, but in my opinion, this should be Gavin’s award.
Agree with Maggie. What Gavin did is HUGE and monumental. If David needs to get this one, then perhaps his Tony for Curtains can retroactively and rightly go to Raul Esparza.
Agree with both of these statements haha but David Hyde Pierce deserves it too.
i love david and think he does extremely great work. let’s not disparage him because we want another to get an award. it’s not fair to either of them.
I’m not disparaging him, I’ve read about the type of work David has done and I think it really is awesome, I’ve just seen personally the impact that work Gavin has done has had, especially for the gay community. My friend went with the cast of Hair on the bus to DC and said it was unlike anything she’s ever done in her life. I really do commend both of them, I was just hoping that with all that has happened in the past year or so with Prop 8 and such, they would recognize Gavin.
That being said, David Hyde Pierce is a wonderful actor and seems like a genuinely awesome person and he’s a great representative of the Broadway community.
Maybe next year when Gavin could actually be there to receive it since he’s in London right now anyway. However, if they recognize him they should recognize his whole team.
