Whitney Houston says hospital stay due to allergies, not relapse

Filed under: News and tagged: ,

Whitney Houston told People.com that her recent hospital stay in Paris was due simply to allergies and not, as speculated, due to a drug relapse, which Houston calls “ridiculous.” The hospitalization forced her to postpone the first four shows of her European tour, but Houston says she’s “feeling great” now. “I’m just ready to move on and continue my world tour,” she continued. The recording star will resume performing April 13 in Birmingham, England.

      She’s back on the pipe!

I go to the hospital for allergies. What good would it do to go to a hospital for a relapse.

  • ks

    Whatever Whitney

  • rebecca

No offense, but seriously who goes to a hospital because of allergies?!! Maybe she has crazy allergies, but I have bad allergies too, and I have never gone to the hospital because of them. Pollen never sends me to the hospital! Take an allergy medicine already!!

    • Sara Lee

Yeah, you’re clearly an expert on every allergy that exists to make that call… NOT! There are other allergies besides the seasonal ones that exist, and some ARE severe enough to put you in the hospital. Like nut allergies, shellfish allergies, allergies to certain kinds of medicines, I could go on and on and on. Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allergy and educate yourself so you don’t sound so dumb next time.

Way to express your ignorance. As many as 5000 people die every year in the U.S. due to asthma related complications (you know, allergies). Myself, I’ve been put in the ER by a kitten.

it might have been food silly, throat closes, can get a rash… stuff happens. & yes allergies can SEND SOME ONE TO THE HOSPITAL. &+ im not a huge whitney fan!, just a thought

Oh, Whitney, just go back on Oprah and tell her again that you’re clean again and that you love everybody. Again.

    • kate

tom don’t be such an jerk. I almost died from an allergic reaction to a stupid antibiotic for a sinus infection

    • Sooo Me

LOL, Tom! Too dang funny. I’ve been laughing already 15 mins since readng your post.

Yeah, Whit, go back and tell the story…. A.G.A.I.N.

My goodness what cynical people plague these comment sections! First of all who are you all to judge her!? Judge not a person for their failures but for tehir triumphs! You have no idea what it must be liek to be in her shoes, the good and the bad! How dare you all! Look in your own lives none of you are saints! Imagine every move you make ready for tabloid fodder! People get sick, people have allergies, people fall down, people get back up!

    Shame on you!

Good luck Whitney! I support you and know that you will continue your tour perfectly!

Unless she was in the hospital because she had some kind of allergic reaction most people do not have to be admitted because of allergies. I have them. They suck, but you don’t have to be admitted because of them. Unfortunately, Whitney has given people the reason to by cynical. You just have to watch the Bobby Brown show to see that.

      • Sara Lee

        Sue, read my post above.

Unfortunately Whitney is and always will be a drug addict. She says a relapse is “ridiculous”?? Just like she said the first time that her being on drugs was “ridiculous” right?????

From the televised performances at the start of this comeback tour, Whitney was really struggling for breath and to hit notes then. Add the travel, lack of sleep, PR demands AND performances and I expect the tour is very hard on her body.

I wish her well, but fear that the severe damage she did to her instrument during her drug years (giving her the benefit that they are over) cannot be overcome.

I’m with Andre….however, there’s a report in the NYPost, if you can believe it, that she was in LA a while back and doing coke lines at the bar. I don’t believe it. I don’t believe she would be out there like that and with Bobby? No way.

  • Pete

    It’s just allergies… allegedly!

  • DeeKang

Wouldn’t it be great to realize that just because you have s condition that acts one way does not mean it’s the same for all? I have allergies that turn into terrible sinus infections and asthma. I can’t count the hospital visits and tubes to relieve fluid on lungs, behind ears, etc. My co-worker got a brain abscess from allergies turned infection and nearly died. Speak about what you know and not about how you would like to see others fall down with you.

  • Allergyqueen

1st of all,To those who do not see how anyone could go to a hospital for allergies. Most allergies are mild that is true. However then their are million(s)of us allergy sufferers that sadly have anaphylactic severe reactions to foods such as nuts or shellfish, spices, even dyes found in foods that can set us off. So yes a hospital stay is warranted when your tongue swells, throat is closing and your airway constricts! without urgent medical attention we could DIE.So in closing..Whitney’s stay is very believable to me.

  • Mysti

Come on guys. I know there are severe allergic reactions to shellfish, nuts, medicine and the like yes. But read the headline. She says “allergies”, not “an allergic reaction”. Allergies are commonly referred to as those pesky red eyes, runny nose and sneezing from pollen, etc. from springtime. I’m with the others here who don’t buy it. While I know some allergic reactions and infections can cause someone to go to the hospital, “allergies” do not. She’s full of it.

  • connie stevens

who cares! only all the people who bought her concert tickets, that’s who…whitney’s voice left her when she picked up the pipe!! too bad, too late, to many toooo’s

    • connie stevens

      RIGHT ON!

  • Odehyah

I agree with HB. Why are people so cynical and hateful? Can’t we allow someone to recover from a problem, and then allow her to succeed? Allergies can be very serious especially for a professional singer. Give her a break!

  • C. LeBlanc

Allergies are a searious thing. I am allergic to onions, garlic, and chives and am unable to breathe near these items; if I breathe, I vomit profusely,so I stay away from these items if at all possible. This hinders my enjoyment of any sporting events, or any vacations.
