Bret Michaels' doctor: 'Bret's sheer will to live and fully recover is undeniable'

Filed under: News and tagged: , ,

In a statement released today by Bret Michaels’ representatives, the neurosurgeon leading the medical team that is treating the 47-year-old Poison singer addressed his recent hospitalization for a brain hemorrhage. “There is no doubt that Mr. Michaels’ condition is serious. We are treating the subarachnoid hemorrhage, which caused his severe cranial pain,” said Dr. Joseph M. Zabramski, who is the Chief of Cerebrovascular Surgery and Director of Clinical Neurosurgical Research at Barrow Neurological Institute (St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center) in Phoenix. “Mr. Michaels will continue to undergo testing considering we have hit a few roadblocks including hyponatremia, severe cranial and back pain suffered from blood drainage, an emergency appendectomy performed a week earlier and a lifelong history of Type 1 Diabetes. However, Bret’s sheer will to live and fully recover is undeniable. He has an unbelievable fight in him and told me what kept him alive at the moment of the hemorrhage was that he ‘did not want his family to wake up and see him lying unconscious in the middle of the floor.’ It was a combination of Bret’s fight to stay conscious during the hemorrhage and get to the emergency room, and the immediate medical attention provided by our staff at Barrow that enabled us to stabilize his condition.” The Barrow medical team will hold a press conference on Tuesday to update his treatment and prognosis. The statement, which confirmed the Arizona location of where Michaels was being treated, comes two days after news that Michaels was responding well to treatment and could resume his tour in late May.

Lawsuit against unauthorized sequel to J.D. Salinger's 'Catcher in the Rye' heads back to court

Filed under: News and tagged:

A lawsuit that initially blocked the publication of the “sequel” novel to J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye will be reconsidered in federal court, according to Reuters. Last July, a judge in Manhattan federal court blocked the U.S. publication of 60 Years Later: Coming through the Rye, an unauthorized sequel by Swedish author Fredrik Colting, who used the pen name J.D. California. On Friday, the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back to federal court to determine whether the trust of Salinger, who died in January at the age of 91, would suffer irreparable harm if Colting’s book were published. The appeals court also ruled that it expected Salinger’s trust to ultimately prevail in the matter.
