The 83rd annual Academy Awards are set to take place Sunday, Feb. 27, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie industry’s penultimate event joins an already-packed schedule, including The Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 16, the DGA Awards on Saturday, Jan. 29, and the SAG Awards on Sunday, Jan. 30.

KC and the Sunshine Band co-founder arrested on sex charges
Richard R. Finch, 56, a producer, seven-time Grammy winner and co-founder of ’70s hitmakers KC and the Sunshine Band, has admitted to having sex with boys age 13-17, and was arrested yesterday in Newark after a teen told authorities he’d had sexual contact with him, the AP reports. No date has been set for his arraignment.
Green Day sued by artist for using image without permission
Artist Dereck Seltzer has filed a suit against Green Day claiming that Scream Icon, his image of a frightened face he created and copyrighted, has been used without pay or permission by the band on their website, onstage, and in a video, according to court documents obtained by EW.
The group’s lawyer has said in a public statement that they received the image from what they believed to be a reputable third party, and were unaware of any copyright issues.
Megan Mullally leaves Broadway play two weeks before start date
Will & Grace star Megan Mullally has abruptly left the Broadway revival of Terrance McNally’s Lips Together, Teeth Apart after two weeks of rehearsal, allegedly because of disagreements with director Joe Mantello, the AP reports.
“We were surprised and disappointed that Megan Mullally had to withdraw from the production immediately in breach of her contract,” Todd Haimes, artistic director of the Roundabout Theatre Company, said Wednesday in a statement.
Mullally’s replacement has not yet been announced for the show, which was set to begin previews April 9. Preview performances have been postponed but the April 29 opening date will remain, as will her castmates Patton Oswalt, Lili Taylor, and David Wilson Barnes.
'16 Candles' crooner Johnny Maestro dies
Singer Johnny Maestro, the man who sang the 1958 doo-wop ballad “16 Candles” with the Crests and spent many years with The Brooklyn Bridge, who had a top-five hit with “The Worst That Could Happen,” has passed away in Florida after a battle with cancer. He was 70.
Comedian Patrice Oneal snags two new gigs at Comedy Central
Comedian Patrice Oneal has landed both a stand-up special to air later this year, and a pilot for a semi-scripted comedy/reality presentation, Patrice Oneal’s Guide to White People. The latter will star Oneal as a professor teaching “Whitey 101″ classes to foreign citizens and others who want to learn “what white people are about and how to get along with them,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Green Day announce U.S. summer tour dates
Stadium-punk trio Green Day has announced a late-summer U.S. tour, following a five-week European jaunt; confirmed dates so far, listed at greenday.com, begin August 3 in Camden, N.J. and wrap September 2 in Chula Vista, Calif. Fellow Bay Area rockers AFI will support.

Universal Orlando has announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park will have its grand opening on June 18. More details about the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction have also been released.
Dennis Hopper too ill to undergo deposition, claims the actor's lawyer
Dennis Hopper’s attorney is alleging that the actor is too ill to be questioned by his wife Victoria’s attorneys in a deposition. The Apocalypse Now star, who has prostate cancer, moved to legally end his marriage in January. AP is reporting that on Wednesday, Hopper’s lawyer filed a declaration that the actor’s grave condition meant he would be unable to participate in a deposition.
