Fox orders pilot of Jamie Foxx-produced sketch show
Fox has ordered a pilot of an untitled sketch comedy show produced by Jamie Foxx, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fax Bahr and Adam Small, who worked with Foxx on In Living Color, are also producing. Comic Affion Crockett (Wild ‘N Out) will be one of the show’s stars.
Mark Pellegrino heads indie drama 'Joint Body'
Mark Pellegrino (Lost, Supernatural) has been cast as the lead in the indie drama Joint Body. He’ll star as a parolee whose ex-wife won’t allow him to see their young daughter, and who gets involved with an equally lonely stripper and “saves her from an unlikely assailant and is forced to re-evaluate his freedom as he evades the law and faces demons from his past,” Variety reports. The cast also includes Alicia Witt (Friday Night Lights) and Jim Parrack (True Blood).
'Modern Family' star Sofia Vergara joins Smurfs movie
Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) has been cast in the upcoming big-screen Smurfs adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Vergara will play a live-action character named Odile, married to a character played by Neil Patrick Harris. The film is set for release next summer.
'FlashForward' costar Christine Woods cast in NBC comedy pilot
Christine Woods, who stars as FBI agent Janis Hawk on ABC’s FlashForward, has landed the female lead in the NBC pilot Perfect Couples. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Peacock comedy is in second position to the Alphabet drama. The shows revolves around three couples. Her character has a great marriage, but “crazy friends/relatives,” says the trade.
'The Miracle Worker' to close April 4
The Broadway revival of The Miracle Worker starring Abigail Breslin as Helen Keller and Alison Pill as Annie Sullivan will end its run April 4, producers have announced. According to The New York Times, the production, which cost more than $2.5 million to mount, will have played only 21 preview performances and 38 regular performances.
Bryan Singer to produce 'X-Men: First Class'
Deadline reports that Bryan Singer will produce, but not direct, the prequel X-Men: First Class, which 20th Century Fox hopes will have a 2011 release. Singer was unavailable to direct because of shooting on his next movie, Jack the Giant Killer.

National Geographic acquires Sundance doc
Variety reports that National Geographic Entertainment has acquired the domestic rights to Restrepo, the documentary about a platoon in Afghanistan that won the documentary grand jury prize at Sundance this year. Restrepo was produced and shot by Tim Hetherington and author Sebastian Junger. The film is set for release on July 2.
Sean Bean to star in 'Age of Heroes'
Sean Bean has been tapped to join the cast of action flick Age of Heroes, which is based on the time James Bond writer Ian Fleming spent with special forces unit 30 Commando. The film co-stars Danny Dyer and Rosie Fellner, and will be directed by Adrian Vitoria. Filming will begin this April, according to Variety.
