Ratings: 'DWTS' ties 'Idol' for week's top spot

Is this the season that ABC’s Dancing with the Stars takes over Fox’s American Idol as the most-watched program on network television? Well, that doesn’t seem like too big of a stretch, especially considering that Dancing tied Idol—each nabbing 24.2 million viewers—for the top spot for the week ending March 28. Granted, Dancing‘s viewership was likely enlarged because the episode was its season premiere (it’s highest-rated ever!), but it’s still quite a moment for the show. In third place for the week, of course, was the other episode of American Idol, the Wednesday results hour, which pulled in 21.4 million viewers. CBS took the fourth and fifth spots in the top 20 with Undercover Boss (16.7 million viewers) landing at No. 4, and long-running newsmagazine 60 Minutes drawing 14.5 million viewers and tying for No. 5 with Two and a Half Men. Outside of NCAA basketball, the rest of the top 20—which can be found after the jump with viewership totals—was your usual mix of Grey’s Anatomy, reruns of NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles, Survivor, and so on.

Publicist Howard Bragman on Ricky Martin's coming out: 'I think it's a wonderful decision'

Categories: Music, Politics

Self-proclaimed “coming-out guru” and longtime Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman calls Ricky Martin’s public coming-out yesterday a “wonderful decision.”: “We’ve had in the last six months, Meredith Baxter, Sean Hayes, and Ricky Martin all come out of the closet,” he tells EW.com. “And while it may not be an avalanche, it’s certainly more than a trickle. Everyone brings something different to the party. With Meredith, it was this quintessential TV mom. With Ricky, you got a couple things going on: One, he’s Latino, and it’s a community that has issues with accepting homosexuality; Two, he’s from Florida, which bans gay parents adopting and he’s a gay parent. I’m super proud of him. I think it was a very courageous move and I think he’s going to be surprised at how energized his career his. I think he’s going to feel better about himself; I don’t think he’s going to lose his fans.”

Stephenie Meyer pens 'Eclipse' novella on newborn vampire Bree

Categories: Books, Twilight

Stephenie-Meyer-novellaImage Credit: David Gabber/PR PhotosStephenie Meyer will publish The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, a 192-page novella centered on a newborn vampire introduced in the third Twilight novel, Eclipse, in June. The story chronicles the journey of villain Victoria’s newborn vampire army as they prepare to close in on Bella and the Cullens. It will be released at 12:01 a.m. on June 5 in hardcover ($13.99, with $1 from each sale going to the American Red Cross International Response Fund). From June 7 to July 5, fans will be able to read the book for free online at www.breetanner.com, which will also provide a link to the American Red Cross website where they can donate to support relief efforts in Haiti, Chile, and around the globe.

On her official site, Meyer says she never intended to publish Bree Tanner as a stand-alone book. It was just something she’d started working on while she was still editing Eclipse. “I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another.” The novella came in handy during the filming of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (in theaters June 30). Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, director David Slade, and actors Xavier Samuel (Riley), Bryce Dallas Howard (Victoria), and Jodelle Ferland (Bree) all read it before cameras rolled to better understand the characters.

Meyer thought the manuscript might work well as part of The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, a tome still awaiting a pub date, but at nearly 200 pages, it was something her publisher thought worked better on its own. Meyer liked the idea of publishing it before Eclipse hits theaters, to give fans an introduction to Bree. She also considered the novella a gift to devoted Twilight readers, which is why she asked her publisher to make it available for free online.
