Conan O'Brien in talks to film tour documentary

Conan O’Brien is in early talks to film a documentary of his 30-city “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour,” his publicist confirms to EW. As first reported by Deadline’s Mike Fleming, Media Rights Capital is in discussions to finance, while Rodman Flender (Idle Hands) is in conversations to direct.

Syfy expands its reality programming

Syfy announced at its upfront yesterday that it’s expanding its original programming: docuseries Paranormal Investigators, about, uh, paranormal investigators, and Mary Knows Best, about a psychic, will debut July 15, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Beast Legends, which will use CGI to explore the mythology of legendary creatures, will come out later this year, according to the LA Times. Tracy Morgan will return as the host of Scare Tactics, which is set to return this fall.

South by Southwest Film Festival announces winners

The South by Southwest Film Festival announced its juried and audience awards yesterday, highlighted by the Narrative Feature prize going to Lena Dunham’s “Tiny Furniture.” Here is the full list of winners:

'ER' alum Goran Visnjic negotiating to star in 'Boston's Finest' pilot

ER alum Goran Visnjic is in talks to star alongside Katee Sackhoff in the ABC drama pilot Boston’s Finest, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Nia Long has also already been cast in the pilot. Sackhoff is the focus of Finest, which concerns her teaming with an ex-cop, played by Visnjic) to figure out the conspiracy that send him underground.

Tom Selleck near deal to star in CBS cop drama pilot

Tom Selleck has nearly signed on to play the lead in an untitled drama pilot for CBS, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The project was formerly titled Reagan’s Law and is a “multigenerational drama revolving around a family of New York cops.” Selleck is on tap to play Michael, the NYPD chief of police who lives with his father Patrick (Len Cariou), the former chief. Donnie Whalberg is set to play Selleck’s son Brian, who’s also a detective. Selleck has been a staple on CBS in the last few years, starring in the network’s Jesse Stone movie franchise.

Sigourney Weaver cast as vampire queen in 'Vamps'

Avatar star Sigourney Weaver has signed up for Clueless director Amy Heckerling’s next project, romantic-horror-comedy Vamps, and will play the vampire queen, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The tale is set in modern-times and revolves around two young vampires (Clueless star Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter) who are enjoying the single life in New York City before love intervenes. Weaver plays the vamp queen who turned them from humans. Shooting is expected to begin in late April.

'Precious' director Lee Daniels casts next project, 'Selma'

The Oscar-nominated director of Precious, Lee Daniels, is busy at work on his next project, Selma, casting British actor David Oyelowo in the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Oyelowo, who was in A Raisin in the Sun, will play the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in the project, which also stars Hugh Jackman as a racist sheriff. The story focuses on King’s 1965 marches in Selma, Ala.

Rachael Harris to join up with 'My Boys'

Comedienne and actress Rachael Harris (The Hangover) will be joining the sitcom My Boys as Marcia, a new neighbor and love interest for character Mike, TBS confirms. Her first episode will be in the latter half of the fourth season, which premieres July 25.

Update: TBS also confirms that cast member Jim Gaffigan will not be returning for Season 4.

Tracy Morgan returns to host Syfy's 'Scare Tactics'

Tracy Morgan will be returning as the host of Syfy’s candid-camera frightfest Scare Tactics, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 30 Rock star will also be picking up an executive producer credit for the show’s 13 new episodes, which premiere this fall and will constitute a part of an upcoming block of reality programming on the newly rebranded channel.

Jack Kirby's estate sues Marvel Comics over rights to characters

Marvel Comics’ Spidey-sense must be tingling. The estate of Jack Kirby, who co-created most of the comics behemoth’s most popular superheroes, is suing the company to terminate the copyrights on those characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s THR, Esq. blog. The suit claims non-exclusive control, but that still means that, should it win, the estate would be able to license to other studios characters with movie franchises already in the works. X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America and the Fantastic Four could all potentially lose their copyright statuses.
