CBS orders new series 'Beat the Chefs'
CBS has announced a new food reality series called Beat the Chefs, in which everyday families and chefs face-off in a cooking challenge, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is the network’s first reality cooking competition.
Abbie Cornish to star in Madonna's 'W.E.'
Variety reports Bright Star actress Abbie Cornish will star in W.E., the new period drama about the love affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson that Madonna is directing. Cornish has also signed on to co-star opposite Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro in the thriller Dark Fields, which focuses on a man trying out an experimental drug.
Panasonic 3-D TVs sell out
Panasonic Corp. has announced that its much-hyped 3-D televisions have already sold out in their first week on the market. The company is now reportedly taking back orders due to the high demand. Panasonic’s 3-D televisions went on sale March 10 for $2,899.99, which included 3-D glasses and a 3-D Blu-Ray player.
'Top Chef' tour announces dates for 2010
Bravo is once again taking its hit series Top Chef on tour beginning April 14 in St. Louis, MO. Fans can meet contestants from the series, get autographs, and taste dishes from the chefs. This year, the Top Chef tour will make stops in 21 U.S. cities.
Identity of father of Padma Lakshmi's daughter revealed
According to People, venture capitalist Adam Dell is the father of Padma Lakshmi’s daughter. The Top Chef host had kept his identity a secret since she announced her pregnancy last October. People‘s source says Dell and Lakshmi are in the midst of working out visitation rights. (Dell splits his time between Austin and New York.) Lakshmi’s daughter, Krishna, was born in February.
Ian McKellen: 'Hobbit' begins shooting in July
In a post on his official website, actor Ian McKellen confirmed that the long-gestating Hobbit project will begin shooting this July in New Zealand, with two films planned. “Filming will take over a year,” says the announcement, which confirms that McKellen will reprise his role as the wizard Gandalf. “Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth. The director Guillermo del Toro is now living in Wellington, close to the Jacksons’ and the studio in Miramar.”
Report: Google, Intel, and Sony teaming up for Google TV
Google, Intel, and Sony are joining forces to create Google TV, according to the New York Times. The open-source Android-based platform will integrate web functions onto a user’s TV screen, and could be available “as soon as this summer.”
Blockbuster may file for bankruptcy
Blockbuster Inc. said in a regulatory filing late Tuesday that the company was suffering “significant liquidity constraints” and could have to file for bankruptcy protection due to competition from DVD-by-mail company Netflix inc. and DVD vending machines operated by Coinstar Inc., according to the Associated Press. Shares of Blockbuster dropped 30 percent Wednesday after the announcement. Blockbuster has had to close down 1,300 stores and is looking to close hundreds more.
