Adam Lambert to perform at next month's GLAAD Media Awards

Adam Lambert will perform at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards, to be held in Los Angeles on April 17. As previously announced, Wanda Sykes will be presented the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community. Drew Barrymore will be honored with the Vanguard Award, after portraying the lesbian daughter of a widower (Robert De Niro) in the 2009 film Everybody’s Fine and joining public protests when the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 last May. Other guests and presenters scheduled to attend include cast members from Glee, Tom Ford (A Single Man), Eric Dane (Valentine’s Day), Jason Lewis (Brothers & Sisters), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Chaz Bono, Benjamin Bratt (La Mission), RuPaul (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Bryan Batt (Mad Men), Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Elizabeth Keener, Clementine Ford (The L Word) and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps (Real Housewives of New York City).

Suprised you didn’t mention Ricky martin coming out. While not a big shock, It was suprising that he announced it.

    • whatevs

Yeah, maybe he can be a presenter at these awards now.

    • Laura

WTF does Ricky Martin have to do with Adam performing?

    • Hella

Adam Lambert is confused as well.
If he was happy with himself, he
would act in a different manner.

  • insomniac

Not to be rude, but how has Adam Lambert used his celebrity to promote “equality”? I thought he wanted his career to be all about the music. I’m confused.

    • Melissa

@insomniac – Almost every bit of press about Lambert since Idol has been more about his sexuality than his music, including the fake-bisexuality nonsense he’s been playing up for the sake of his female fans. If he wants it to be all about the music, he’s not acting like it.

      • insomniac

LOl. Ok. I see where you’re coming from.

      • Sara

@Melissa You don’t know what you’re talking about. Adam would prefer the focus be on his music career – and a lot of it has been. If blogs/news associations pick up on certain things he says, it’s not his fault. And he’s never pretended to be bisexual. What was his tweet today again? Oh yeah “GAY GAY GAY GAY yay!”

Based on my reading of this article, I don’t think Adam is being honored. I think he is just performing.

      • RR3

That is exactly right “Tom in STL”

      • Keylon

Great hammer of Thor, that is powerfully hefpull!

    • Sara

Adam is one of the very few “out and proud” musicians. Name another who came out at the beginning of his/her career? That takes guts and sets a positive example. He’s changed a lot of narrow minds simply by being who he is. He’s not a politician who needs to give speeches on equality to be deserving of being nominated and performing at the GLAAD awards.

    • Laura

Of course you meant to be rude. If you are going to do it, own it.

  • sumwhut

adam is in an interesting position. He is out and proud, but does not want that to be the focus. Focus on the music. He has to respond to the questions though and own it. He does raise awareness, encourage the conversation, and challenge the double standards, etc. I think that is part of what makes him an artist while staying true to himself.

  • Tully

Wonder what he’s going to sing? Does anybody know?

  • Laura

Awesome – I can’t wait for this performance! And I can’t wait to see Drew too!

  • tattoo50

The more performances by Adam Lambert the better in my opinion. I hope he brings back the more “provocative” live performance style. Love the stripped down acoustic stuff, but I’m ready for A SHOW! Love him and all he stands for!!

  • RR3

Here’s our opinion….if Adam wants everyone to only concentrate on his music (which by the way is fantastic) he should then stop giving anyone reasons to focus on his sexuality during his performances…
when he performs with OTT outfits and make up, fans see a gay dude performing…
Articles like the one in the NYtimes during his perfomance in Fantasy Springs CA…”dressed like a nightmare, sings like a dream”…
If he would had perfomed “Broken Open” at the AMA…what a whole different story this would be…

  • E

Adam is up for an award also and he is up against Lady Gaga and he is preforming. He said himself if it wasn’t for the pictures that came out o him kissing another guy he would have never came out because he wants it to be about the music.
