Artist Dereck Seltzer has filed a suit against Green Day claiming that Scream Icon, his image of a frightened face he created and copyrighted, has been used without pay or permission by the band on their website, onstage, and in a video, according to court documents obtained by EW.
The group’s lawyer has said in a public statement that they received the image from what they believed to be a reputable third party, and were unaware of any copyright issues.

I used to like “Green Day”….but they’ve sucked ever since they released American Idiot.
I actually liked American Idiot, and thought that brought them back into the spotlight. However everything since…not so much.
I actually liked American Idiot
Sounds like their management has been acting like AMERICAN IDIOTS. After being alerted to the fact that the artist owned the COPYRIGHTED IMAGE, the band decided to ignore his legal notice and continue to use the work – for a world wide tour, music video and promotional material – with out giving him any credit or compensation. You really think that the recording industry which has done nothing but BITCH AND MOAN about their copyright problems (illegal downloading, pirating of videos – which is essentially what GREEN DAYS MANAGEMENT DID) and how it hurts their fat, financed wallets should not pay a artist they stole work from? I know for a FACT this image was sanctioned for a well known indie film ” Sympathy for Delicious” and for the video which can be seen at this link:
The proof is all right there – the artist deserves compensation for his material which they abused, and a major apology from Warner Brothers.
