A new contender has come forward in the fight to helm Mission: Impossible IV. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Tom Cruise and Paramount has expressed interest in The Incredibles writer-director Brad Bird for the action flick, set for release May 2011. If Bird is chosen for the job, it would be his first foray into live-action directing. Cruise and the studio have also met with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World‘s Edgar Wright.

I’ve been saying that “The Incredibles” is one of the best action movies of the last decade, and that Bird should direct a live action project for years, so I’d LURVE this!
