Actress Kate Winslet and American Beauty director Sam Mendes are ending their marriage after almost seven years together, their lawyers tell EW.
“Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” their lawyers’ statement reads. “The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.”
The Oscar-winning couple, who wed in 2003, have a six-year-old son, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes. Winslet also has a nine-year-old daughter, Mia Honey, with director and ex-husband Jim Threapleton. Mendes directed Winslet’s Golden Globe-winning performance in 2008′s Revolutionary Road.

Regardless, whenever I see her in an interview she comes off as someone is entirely full of themself. She also thinks way too highly of herself. Make no mistake, she has given some decent performances, but its not like she is the greatest actress to ever live. Furthermore, I highly doubt she will be an actress anyone truly remembers outside of being the Titanic girl. The Reader was overrated drivel, the same old Oscar bait background.
I have to disagree. Winslet is definitely one of the best actresses of her generation. As for being known only as the Titanic girl? Maybe to those who find Transformers high art and complain that Twilight wasn’t nominated for best picture.

Are you kidding, “Overrated Actress”? Besides being the only good thing about “Titanic,” she’s been outstanding in “Little Children,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Hamlet,” “Sense and Sensibility” and, yes, even “Revolutionary Road” and “The Reader.” If you’re talking summer blockbuster revenue, she’s no Cameron Diaz’s voice in “Shrek,” but Kate Winslet is right up there with Meryl, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore and (I hate to say it, but…) Nicole Kidman.

Overated Actress, I see your point. I actually really like Kate Winslet, but I do cringe when she talks about herself. And, after her acceptance speeches during the last awards season, I’m not at all surprised to hear about the split. You def should not give love more enthusiastically to your costar (Leo) than your husband!!
I’m saddened to hear that a marriage is breaking up, but it also made me think of her boobies in Titantic, which were quite nice.

According to LaineyGossip, there’s a Best Actress curse. A lot of the actresses who have won the award end up divorced. So I guess that means Sandra and Jesse are next.
I would say it’s more of a Hollywood curse; you can count the “successful” marriages of big-time actors and actresses on one hand, especially when actors are married to each other! It might be more prevalent with the younger ones simply because they’re younger and divorce isn’t the big deal now that it used to be.
Nah, there was true love between Sandra and Jesse during this awards season. They’re in it for the long haul.

I guess it wasn’t a happy marriage. Though they looked happy in public, just look at the films they’ve done together and separately that take on matrimony. American Beauty, Little Children, and Revolutionary Road all had dire looks at marriage, and both stars repeatedly came back to that theme in their work. I guess we know why now. (I’m aware AB came out in 1999, but still.)
So much for her saying that working with ehr husband on “Revolutionary Road” made her love him more. LOL
It is a life style change for most to be at their ideal giweht. I have to work at maintaining my giweht by getting exercise and not pigging out on junk food. The weekend is by far the hardest with gatherings with friends and family, I tend to eat a less wholesome meal and intake more alcohol than I would typically on a work night. I try to make up for that during the week eating balanced meals at home, getting lots of rest and exercising.
Halle, Reese, Kate, and Hilary were all married, but…
Don’t forget the women with long-term boyfriends when they won–like Charlize Theron and Julia Roberts. Julia broke up with Ben Bratt a few months after she won, and Charlize broke up with Stu Townsend just recently. Susan Sarandon won, and broke up with Tim Robbins recently, Helen Hunt broke up with Hank Azaria after she won.
The only single women to win in the last 15 years were Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman.
Fingers crossed for Frances McDormand, Helen Mirren and Sandy Bullock. Hopefully they stay married!

I do not count Susan & Tim. She won Best Actress in 1995 and did not split up with Tim until 2009. That is over 14 years. I would count winning Best Actress and then separating from partner/spouse within 3 years. Charlize & Stu 7 years after winning.
