Rielle Hunter, the mistress of John Edwards, gave a lengthy interview to GQ, breaking her long silence regarding her affair with the politician and father to her young daughter, Frances. “I know he loves me,” she told the magazine. “I have never had any doubt at all about that. We love each other very much. And that hasn’t changed, and I believe that will be till death do us part. The love doesn’t go away. It’s unconditional.”
Hunter, who was hired as the politician’s videographer in 2008, said she slept with Edwards the night she first met him in 2006: “I had never experienced anything like what was flowing between us. I sat on the other side of the room. I wouldn’t go near him…It was just this, this magnetic force field like I had never experienced. It terrified me. Absolutely terrified me.”
In the interview, Hunter — who denies that Edwards has proposed to her — also discusses the paternity scandal, and the plan for Andrew Young to claim he was the father of Frances. Edwards’ mistress also talks about the politician’s wife, Elizabeth, whom she feels “such compassion” for. “Infidelity doesn’t happen in healthy marriages. The break in the marriage happens before the infidelity. And that break happened, you know, two-and-a-half decades before I got there. So the home was wrecked already. I was not the Home Wrecker.”
As for the public’s perception of her? “I’m not a predator, I’m not a gold digger, I’m not the stalker,” she told GQ, insisting that Edwards has redeemed himself. “Everyone talks about how Johnny has fallen from grace. In reality he’s fallen to grace. He is integrated. He is living a life of truth. He has grown in awareness and humility. He had all these things within him, but they weren’t the guiding, leading principles of his life. Now they are.”

Not so long ago, a person would have been ashamed to have been caught committing adultery; rarely was any financial benefit opening discussed and children weren’t paraded in magazines. This can’t be an improvement.
The victims here; Elizabeth Edwards and this child.
No kidding. Whatever happened to being “guilty” about sleeping with a married man? Whatever happened to keeping your mouth shut especially since she has a child to think about? Now women who have slept with these famous men (Tiger included), are getting publicist, doing interviews on the Today show and posing in GQ magazine.
Unfortunately such guilt has not be expressed in many years. Look at that one hit song from the 70s justifying adultery where the chorus goes “If loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right..” It sold in both the country and soul/r&b markets.Hmmm….
the media continues to help make these people famous. why is GQ paying for an interview with her and taking pictures of her? why are all tigers mistresses getting publicists? why is E giving a tv show to the girls who were breaking into houses? its a mess how people become rich and “famous” these days.
Too true.
Ummm add to the list of victims the John and Elizabeth’s three children…
Secret lover and Part time lover are better examples and more recent.
so true
I think it is extremely damaging to the children if there parents are ashamed of them. My mother was a child of an affair and though her father was always involved in her life his shame and secrey really messed her up. I don’t think they shame of the affair should be passed on to the child.
…and now this bimbo is crying that she is unhappy with the pictures.
trash.
I always thought John and Elizabeth’s marriage was a sham. Just a political marriage for political gain. Can’t have both worlds. Politicians are a bunch of phonies.
The sound you just heard is me throwing up my lunch. She has “such compassion” for Elizabeth Edwards? Wouldn’t “compassion” mean don’t sleep with a married man? Don’t get me wrong, “Johnny” is just as gulity EVEN more but this woman knew he was married. The sane thing to do no matter what your libido was saying is to walk away fast. Do not pass go, don’t look behind you keep moving. What pisses me off is I feel “compassion” for the people who donated to his campaign. This happened in 2006, why would he accept money for the President of United Staes knowing he was bonking around? Too many people were stroking that ego of his. If Elizabeth’s dies, I seriously hopes her ghost haunts him 24/7. And if I see media hound Gloria Allred representing her, the other sound you would have heard is me throwing a brick at the television.
I completely agree with you. John Edwards is a sociopath, plain and simple. Whatever went on during his marriage to Elizabeth does not justify what he did. If he wasn’t happy, he could have left her a long time ago. But no, his political career was too important to him.
Rielle could not be any more disconnected from reality than she already is. I feel sorry for her daughter. What could possibly be the reason for her to even do this interview, and then do it with GQ of all magazines? She is sick.
I feel very badly for their daughter (and Edward’s older kids as well.) “Johnny” and Reille’s daughter will grow up one day to read that her biological father used donations from his poverty charity to pay for her rather than out of his own pocket. And that she was conceived while her father’s wife was dying of cancer. Disgusting.
What do you mean by “GQ of all magazines?” I’m not trying to be snarky or anything. I really don’t get why GQ would be an issue.
Sure, Rielle Hunter and John Edwards may have a chance. After all, look at John McCain and Prince Charles who both married their mistresses. However, she should also remember the words to that famous adage “A man who marries his mistress is also advertising a job vacancy….”
Oooooh! I like that!! Do not forget to add Rudy Guilianni too to that list. Another famous quote: Karma is a beeyatch.
Sabrina, you’re brilliant! I love that!
Too bad Sabrina stole it from someone on an ABC News blog.
Carrie, try to keep up sweetie, SABRINA never claimed that she made up the saying herself, she clearly said “……remember the words to that FAMOUS adage.” Reading comprehension really works!!! Give it a try sometime.
Nshi, Sabrina stole her entire post word-for-word from someone else on the ABC News blog. I was responding to the poster referring to Sabrina as brilliant. How about you try that reading comprehension thing yourself sometime? And it’s NOT as famous an adage as you might think – since I Googled it to see where it came from … and found the ABC News blog.
Carrie, get a life. Who are you the comment police?? You mean to tell us that you don’t have anything better to do than to go around to different sites and compare peoples posts???
carrie, maybe sabrina posted in both places???
My thought exactly, she could have posted in both places, and could have used different names.
Carrie=Nuts
Nshi = crazy online board stalker.
Nice quote! It really is fitting too since in no way do I think John Edwards has washed all of the slime off
We should add Newt and Rush to the list
I thought Rush was into hookers and boys…not commitments…do tell…
I don’t care what this woman does or says, because she is totally self-centered. I voted for John Edwards because I wanted Universal Health Care, and at the least a “public option”. John Edwards was the only Presidential candidate willing to fight for people like me. He wasn’t here to fight for us; so we didn’t get Universal Health care. We didn’t even get the health care “public option”.
God, I’m sick of these ho’s going for an additional 15 minutes when they know it over. Elle, you hit the nail on the head, this used to be a private matter, now it how loud these idiots can scream to the press and how much coverage they can get, all for the almighty dollar.
What have we become…
She is just sickening. She has a baby with a married man. What kind of woman are you. I think you are a gold digger and i hope you don’t get a penny. How do you sleep at night.ALONE cause he is with his wife….
Clearly this snake has no shame. She and John Edwards deserve each other. I would wish them a long, mistrustful, miserable relationship if there were not an innocent child involved.
GAG I wonder how much GQ got paid to write this piece of garbage, they are trying waaaaay too hard to make Rielle seem like the good person and it is just plain ridiculous!
Gag.
Why is it always the other woman’s fault? John Edwards is the one to blame here, first by cheating on his wife and then by asking his best friend to lie about being the father.
Both are at fault…but the thing is she is going to be reviled more because of the way she’s carrying on. Sure, she “loves” him but do you see him out there talking about loving her? Nope. Most of the time time the men always stay silent and it’s almost always the woman who has to sing like a bird (a vulture in this case) when it comes to intimate relationships. Why? To try to justify their actions.
It takes a special kind of woman to sleep with a married man whose wife is dying of cancer. That special kind of woman is a gold-digging careless person whose child should be given up for adoption.
What he did to her he will eventually do to you.
Just because he cheated once doesn’t mean he will cheat again. We know nothing of his marriage to Elizabeth. It may have been hell on earth for both of them. I say stay out of the private lives of our politicians, it is not relevant.
Even if one is in a “bad” marriage, it still doesn’t excuse adultery. Both John Edwards and Reille Hunter need to take personal responsibility.
