David Fincher will direct chess drama Pawn Sacrifice for Columbia, Variety reports. The film follows controversial chess star Bobby Fischer’s life up to the championship in which he faced Boris Spassky. Fincher is currently directing The Social Network, a film about the creation of Facebook; Variety says he is also at the top of a short list to direct the screen adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s crime novel The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
