Too bad they’re not still with us to see this day,

    • darclyte

I’m not sure what you meant. The Stones are still alive and kicking…or at least alive and using walkers and canes.

      • Leila

        Except for Brian Jones.

      • Quirky

Actually I’m pretty sure Keith Richards died 15 years ago, it’s just nobody has had the courage to tell him yet.

    • Heidi

What a great songbook to work with. Some suggestions:

      Casey- Dead Flowers

      Andrew- Waiting on a Friend

      Didi- As Tears Go By

      Crystal- Angie

Siobhan- Gimmee Shelter (a la Grace Slick)

      Lee- Paint It Black

      Mike- Harlem Shuffle

  • Kate

That is a GREAT a long overdue theme!

I know Siobhan will have a blast with it. The other 11, not so sure.

    • OMG

I want to see Toderick do “Shattered”

      • BB

I’m hoping Todrick won’t be here to sing the Stones………just saying….

  • druzilla

The Stones? UGH. At least it’s not more Beatles or Michael Jackson.

    • Applesauce

how long will it take them for U2 night?!?!?!?!?!

  • Aditya

Awesome!!! I love the rolling stones. I really hope crystal, shiobhan and lily can kill it!!!

    • Rock Golf

Big Mike. Fool To Cry. ‘Nuff said.

      • Mitchell Turner

So much for a Madonna night :/

  • Logistics

Wow. I can’t wait to see Crystal Bowersox sing a Rolling Stones song!

Also am quite terrified of the possibility of Tim Urban, Katie Stevens, or Aaron Kelly butchering a classic.

but I guess that is kind of the Idol mantra: unrestrained excitement, sprinkled with unbridled fear

    • Drew

Crystal was made for the Rolling Stones, here’s to hoping the kid’s gonna nail it! Is it bad that she and Siobhan the glass blower are the only people I’m looking forward to hearing more from?

    • luvmichaeljohns

      LOL, good description.

    • Applesauce

crystal gots it easy. im kinda thinkin for lee brown sugar and i can totally picture sioghbavan (Siobhan) singing wild horses like she did week one of semis.

      • ycagwyw

        … or Ruby Tuesday

  • sherlock

By god! this year’s talent is Crap!

    • ken

The reason so many people think the talent is crap this year is because the started with 24 instaed of 12for long solo numbers. In previous years the bottom 12 – out of 24 were eliminated after one week. The talent base is disproportioned from prior years. Normally by now we would be down to the top 8, not the top 16- makes a BIG difference.

      • d.m.

that’s not how it was the previous 2 years…this is the same as season 7. Both season 7 and 8 had a LOT of talent in 24/36. Not to say I think season 9 is bad but there are a lot less people making a good impact. And I wouldn’t call less than 2 min performances long…

      • Preston

Tell me this, why does it take 56 to 58 days for Idol from their January premiere to March to select their top 12 finalists? That’s a long time to sit and stall week after week through auditions and performances to decide on that. Why not one month? They could wrap up the season in April instead of May. It sucks up some of the suspense and excitement when you have us waiting so long like that.

      • as

Disagree. 16, 8, 6…doesn’t matter the number…the boys should be OUT.

      • MB

Money. Fox learned it could make money showing auditions from around the country. And then learned it could extend its flagship show by increasing the “talent” pool to 24 and then using three shows to whittle the group down. Money.

  • DJ

Should be epicly gruesome *rubs hands together in anticipation*

  • james

Ugh, what a terrible choice for the top 12’s first outing, those songs are tough.

    • slick

Not if you slow it down and make it a ballad with a lot of runs *sarcasm*

  • K

Oh, Man, I hope Casey James performs “Honky Tonk Women” and Siobhan Magnus sings “Wild Horses” (Keep it away from Lacey Brown, god forbid she gets into the Top 12!)

    • slomanator

if someone were to do wild horses i actually think lacey should be the one to do it (if she doesnt get the boot tomorrow night) there’s a beautiful version by the sundays that i think she would sing wonderfully

    • Laguna

Oh Lacey is so deserving to be in the top 12… deserves to outlast paige and katie…

  • Maddi

Uh oh, terrible covers of “Gimme Shelter” ahoy.

    • kct

And just imagine the group performance!

  • Nelly B

OMG! Rolling stones!!! I hope one of the girls cover Wild Horses!!! I love that song! Siobhan or Didi would kill it!

    • sarah

i wanna hear DIDI sing it!!!! and i want someone to sing “can’t always get what you want”

  • James

Crystal’s voice was made for Gimme Shelter!!

  • hmm..

wow…. so they are actually trying to keep them from doing anything that is still relevant today..

    • barry

The Stones are the greatest rock band in the world. Still relevant after 45 years.

      • Jason S.

Yeah Have to agree. Only a musical moron would suggest the Rolling Stones are not relevant. They are constantly covered by relevant artists every generation and will be for another 50 years.

    • d.m.

3 weeks of being able to pick from the billboards charts, including lots of current songs, may be considered relevant. And just because a song is current doesn’t mean they will sing it well…it is all covers whether the rolling stones or more ‘current’ songs, just depends on what the contestants do with a song

    • jeannieb

How much of the vapid pap out today will still be beloved 40-50 years from now?

  • Fatima

Someone needs to do Jumpin Jack Flash all soulful. Thelma Houston did a cover of it I like more than the original.
