Corey Haim's agent says it wasn't an overdose

Filed under: News and tagged: ,

Corey Haim’s agent tells People.com that he doesn’t believe the actor’s death was caused by an overdose. “He was doing really well,” Mark Heaslip tells People. “He did struggle with substance abuse, but I’ve repped him for a year-and-a-half and part of my agreement with him was that he had to be clean. That was the number one priority.” Heaslip also notes that Haim’s was suffering from a fever and flu-like symptoms in the hours before his death. Heaslip has not yet returned phone calls from EW.

I hope this is true. If for no other reason than to temper the inhumane sentiments that have prevailed on these discussion boards today. RIP Corey.

        Seriously?????

      • The Original Nshi

Oh puh-leeeeease! The old dreaded “fever and flu-like symptom” routine again.

    • VERUCA SALT

Yes and it’s such a shocker because we all know drug addicts NEVER break agreements.

He may have been “clean”,but I’m sure the damage had already been done. All those years of substance abuse probably took quite a toll on his body and it finally caught up with him.

Hmmm….I’m guessing that another part of that agreement is that Corey lists you as a beneficiary on his insurance policy. A policy which will not be paid out if the holder commits suicide/ODs. Well played Heaslip.

Riiiiiggghhhhht. For once it would be nice for an agent/manager/family to come out with the truth. At the very least his death might be a lesson to some kids out there: Cocaine, probably not the best idea.

You might want to check your grammar. It should be ” ‘Haim’ was suffering…” not ” ‘Haim’s’ was suffering”.

    • Lynne’s Truss

      Might you my dear?

I have to say that these are dark days indeed. Everyday I wake up hooping that it will get better…

  • OMG

It must be an extremely slow day at the EW offices to support all this coverage of a has-been.

    • Disgusted

I have had the misfortune of stumbling upon the obviously sad existance you live in, where it is somehow acceptable to make fun of people when they pass away, and I just wanted to say that I’m sorry your life sucks so much… Good luck with that.

        Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

And on the say healthy cynicism became downright callousness, we all stood in wonder.

    *day

Maybe it’s what killed BRITTNEY MURPHY. Swine Flu like SYMPTOMS…Anyway Haim was alwasy the better Feldman. And Canada still beats USA! Anytime you need more health care Palin come on over!

RIP Corey….so sad he could not be healed from addiction. Please don’t judge!!!

I know people are quick to jump to conclusions but why not give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Didn’t pro wrestler Eddie Guerrero have some drug addictions that he kicked but death caught up to him some 7 or 8 years later regardless. Once the damage is done, it’s done.

i think corey haim was a good actor and just made some big mistakes and i am sad and shocked that he is gone i will miss him

Wow, most of these comments are pretty harsh and judgemental. I admit that Corey had alot of demons but to bash a guy like that is brutal. What happened was very sad and horribly tragic but at least someone was trying to do something to help him. I would hope that if I were in Corey’s shoes that someone cared enough about me to make an attempt to help me out of the hole I’d fallen into. Corey, no matter what took your life you will be greatly missed.

How sympathetic and non-judgemental are people supposed to be? Corey Haim is just another name on a looooong list. I am, quite frankly, fresh out of sympathy for young people who, given chance after chance after CHANCE, still choose to squander their youth and talent. Our culture builds these people up to unsustainable heights just so it can viciously tear them back down. People basically pointed at this young man and laughed at his problems (on that extremely ill-advised TV show he recently did with Feldman). Can we now claim to be sad for his family, without judgement or, or dare I say, SURPRISED?
