ABC Family acquires 'The Blind Side' network TV premiere rights

One day after the Sandra Bullock, the star of The Blind Side, picked up an Oscar for her work in the film, ABC Family announced that they have acquired the network TV premiere rights to John Lee Hancock’s inspirational blockbuster, which was also nominated for Best Picture last night. “Feature films are an integral part of the formula for a successful cable service, and ABC Family has created a terrific destination where Warner Bros. movies have thrived,” Warner Bros.’ President of Domestic Television Distribution Ken Werner said in a press release. “The acquisition of The Blind Side is yet another example of how ABC Family and Warner Bros. collaborate to enhance the great ABC Family franchise.”

Well, it seems appropriate, The Blind Side felt like a Lifetime made for tv movie. Maybe they can get Tracey Gold to play the main character.

It’s the movie….not a TV series….although it wouldn’t be far behind. I hope they hire Quinton in the role.

More lame, drippy ‘Hope Float’ garbage. :-)

Iguess ABC has extra money to waste on this garbage now that they managed to wring more money from Cablevision in order to carry their stations.

    Take that, Lifetime!

They should play this Thanksgiving night…a feel good movie is made for the holidays! However feel good movies aren’t always made for the oscars- the academy just likes Sandra Bullock and this is their ONE time to give it to her so they did.

Read the book “The Blind Side: The Evolution of the Game” by Micheal Lewis. Its about a thousand times better than the movie.

guess the book is phenomenal, because the movie was amazing.

wow…all the negativity. I thought it was a good movie, not the best…and the little kid almost ruined it for me, but it was a good movie. Everyone needs a few pure and positive moments in their life.

    This is where it belongs.

It’s made over 250 million which places it in the top 50 all time for domestic box office. The 20/20 ABC did on the real life family was a ratings bonanza. ABC paid through the nose for the rights to the film and will more than make their money back.

I have hoped all winter that ABC Family would recognized the television potential of “The Blindside”. It would fit perfectly for the core message and demographic of ABC. I really believe that a tv series is possible. Think “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” but make it a high school/family drama set in the South; where familys faithfully go to football games like they go to church.

It has tremendous upside for the 18-35 demographic and it’s crossover appeal for both Black America as well as White America is obvious. The popularity of the Oscar-nominated movie has made it such a huge hit that someone over at ABC family has started to lay the foundation for a tv pilot of “The Blindside”

    Stop that!

Did you really? that is the most interesting story I’ve ever heard.

Seriously this is ew….about The Blind Side…. why?
