Image Credit: Dimitri Hakke/Getty ImagesSinger, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous committed suicide yesterday, his publicist confirms to EW. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today,” his family said yesterday in a statement posted on the Sparklehorse website. “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”
Linkous, who was in his forties but whose exact age is unknown, was best known for his work with Sparklehorse. He also produced Daniel Johnston’s 2003 album Fear Yourself and collaborated with Danger Mouse on the forthcoming Dark Night of the Soul.

Sparklehorse??? sad, but never heard of them !
Really? That’s worth posting?
i never heard of Sparklehorse either. but it’s sad that the guy took his own life.
Wow, thanks for sharing!
I’m so sick of goodbyes…
Hope you’ll finde the mountain and de light.
You need to hear of Sparklehorse. Go shopping today.
I am forever bewildered by people that just because THEY have never heard of a certain musician, that they are worth no recognition. Mark Linkous was a musical genius and was huge in alternative/indie music today. As Brendon said, go shopping today and buy…Good Morning Spider.
Mark who???
Shouldn’t you be watching reality tv or something and staying stupid?
If he’s a musical genius, why have so many not heard of him?
Because they’re ignorant.
Rest In Peace, dear Mark.
What a great artist. You were the real deal. Hope you found peace at last.
As a fan i must say i’m sad. But i respect his choice. He was not murdered or died because of a disease. He made his choice and i respect. As i fan i must recognize that the band is over, but the music is timeless. The band is one of the greatest indie bands of all time, they were there since the 90′s, not the greatest band of all time or the best indie band of all time either, but it was great, awesome, original and fresh. Rest in Peace. He might have died but his songs are here forever, so other people can enjoy years to come.
You respect his choice?? Not me. I’m a fan of the music, but can’t respect the decision. “It’s not dark yet, but it’s gettin’ there.”
I don;t agree with it, but i respect it! Please, he made his choice. Who am i to say he shouldn’t do it? Please, it was his life, he could do whatever he wants. I don’t want people to tell what i can’t do, i make my own choices. He made his. I love his music, but i won’t be selfish to say him to not do this so he won’t “let me down, or make me sad”, he was in deep agony, to him the at was a way to set him free, to get away of all of this. He had reasons. I don’t agree, but i believe that it doesn’t matter my opinion he would still do this and i respect his choice i won’t point my finger and say he made a mistake. That’s what i meant about the respect thing
I posted the last post without reading. I made a few mistakes, he it is without them.

Just because someone doesn’t respect the decision to commit suicide does not mean they’re judging or criticizing the victim. I do not think suicide is something to respect, but I can be understanding and sympathetic towards the mental anguish he must have felt to make such a tragic decision. My condolences to his friends and family.
he died thats that
How sad. Dark night of the Soul is my favorite album of last year.
He was very talented. I hope he found some peace finally.
Who?
idiot
Nickleback fan?
Mark Linkous was one of my favourite artists ever, his albums “Vivadixie…” and “Good Morning Spider” in particular are nothing else but genius. Devastatingly beautiful, tender and sad.
you respect his decision? wow one selfish person leaves and another quickly fills his shoes.
Suicide is not selfish, asking someone to live a life of agony and despair so you don’t have to hear about it is. You have to really want to die to kill your self, its not something spur of the moment. Until you are in that situation stop judging!
Sigh. Sad. He was a talented guy who made some lovely music. I’ll miss him.
i hate this information. i love sparklehorse. i’ve got a collection of memories up on quarterwhipped.tumblr.com
