Tribeca's new online festival to kick off with Ed Burns world premiere

Tags: , ,

Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s Tribeca Enterprises is expanding with the creation of film distribution/marketing platform Tribeca Film and new online film festival Tribeca Film Festival Virtual. American Express is the founding partner on each venture. Tribeca Films will kick off by offering 10 feature films, seven of which are selected from the program of the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival, held in New York. These will be available VOD (starting April 21) through partnerships with the likes of Comcast, Cablevision, and Verizon FiOS. After that, Tribeca Films will release indie films through theatrical, home entertainment, airline, hotel, subscription, and advertising-supported online releases.

The virtual online festival will offer online audiences the chance to screen a selection of films being seen simultaneously by the audience in New York cinemas, as well as participate in discussions, watch festival panels, filmmaker interviews, and live red-carpet coverage. The first TFFV will open April 23 with the world premiere of Ed Burns’ new film Nice Guy Johnny, which premieres simultaneously at the festival in New York.

Other VOD offerings from Tribeca Film will include Climate of Change (narrated by Tilda Swinton); ESPN extreme sports documentary Birth of Big Air, and sex & drugs & rock & roll, starring Andy Serkis and Ian Dury.
