God, I hate my fellow Americans sometimes. How can a quality show like Chuck only draw 6.7 million people, and absolute bottom-of-the-barrel DRECK like The Bachelor get 15 million people to watch? I weep for the future of scripted shows on network television.
I watch Chuck and the Bachelor! Crazy!
Chuck has not captured America’s attention. You can’t force us to watch something we don’t want to.
but we reserve the right to call “america” stupid for watching the bachelor, idol, et al, while funny, clever ORIGINAL shows go unwatched (like chuck). i’ve heard my friends call the bachelor a “guilty pleasure”, which is, basically, an admission that even the people who watch it realize its dumb, trashy entertainment and contibuting to the downfall of our society.
One way or the other, we’re talking about millions of Americans sitting around watching TV. I don’t think anyone gets to give himself pious airs for rotting in front of one show instead of another.
that’s a different debate altogether (i.e. whether one can be mentally stimulated by TV in general). i also watch lost, which i challenge anyone to describe as an hour “rotting”.
Suck it psyche! I watched The Bachelor and I watch Lost too. I deal with enough crap at work that if I want to watch mindless drivel, it’s my choice. Chuck is not that great. Get over yourself!
Suck it GS. Chuck is excellent.
i didnt say it wasn’t your choice. i’m just bemoaning the really high ratings that (what even the people who watch it call)”mindless drivel” get compared to scripted shows. its tough to be a fan of shows like chuck, pushing daisies or better off ted because you know going in its probably going to get cancelled b/c so many people would rather watch “mindless drivel”
i like certain shows. i want them to do well and stay on the air and i get frustrated when the “mindless drivel” wins.
I think it’s because the people who watch reality TV are too lazy to commit to paying attention to a show for 22 episodes.
did you see the pilot list for next year? procedurals, procedurals, doctor romances and procedurals. its not just reality TV that’s contributing to the dumbing down of america.
Oh, I totally agree with that. I think what’s in danger of disappearing is true “episodic” television. The majority would rather watch a CSI or NCIS spin-off since you can miss an episode or two and not feel lost. They don’t realize the satisfaction of following “Lost” or “The Shield” to the end.
No, its because Chuck is very overrated and not that good. People think anything Josh Scwartz touches is gold, but sadly it is not.
The only reason people are watching the Bachelor this season is the guy can’t make up his mind and honestly I don’t think he wants any of them. Look at the track record of the show, do these bachelor’s stay with the women they choose? HIMYM, Two and a half men, BBT, and Chuck are great shows, better than any reality show out there.
Big Bang Theory!!!
Ironic that the Bachelor’s ratings were so high when the ending was made public months ago
I don’t understand the appeal of The Bachelor and many other reality TV shows either (though I have a few exceptions). But when I play videogames quite often, it’s hard to criticize anyone for liking a mindless hobby, since a lot of people view my gaming as such. Whatever makes them happy, go for it…
To be honest, I can understand the difficulty of watching serialized scripted shows if you’re late to the party. There’s no way I would’ve been able to watch Lost if I didn’t catch the pilot episode, and I JUST started watching The Wire on DVD (currently on season four).
Actually the reality shows are scripted too. The Bachelor was poorly edited to show Vienna, his choice, in a positive light – when anyone with a brain saw that she was immature, superficial, had a sick relationship with her father & could not socialize with the other ladies. One sequence showed Jake answering the phone from his bathroom – without a watch – then suddenly, he’s wearing a watch. How many takes did they have to shoot to get that scene (one of the ladies left and called him wanting to return). Cameras showed her in California & him in St. Lucia – convenient editing & scripting.
But I’ll bet she loves the mangurt, which makes her an excellent choice!
Mangurt?? Sorry WTF is that
Chuck is an excellent show. If you
have not watched it then; WATCH THE SHOW, IT IS GOOD!
BACHELOR = FAKE, FAKE, FAKE reality.
Example: Jake cannot possibly be that stupid to pick trailer trash like Vienna who divorced husband in Iraq and took all their money out of the bank for a boob-job. What an idiot!
Chuck is just a show that will cater to those loyal followers and had it not been for Subway sponsoring this show, there’s no way this season would have happened. The Bachelor is a train-wreck but that show caters to women most of the time.
You people are PATHETIC PERIOD!!
When I watch tv, I want to be engaged and enthralled with what’s happening on the program. I don’t care if the show is high brow like LOST or a fairy tale production like The Bachelor, just give me a great show and not a snoozefest called Chuck.
Jake,
Take my advice and get off TV. We’re so disappointed in you. You come across as a very sincere, nice guy with values. Your actions by selecting Vienna show your true colors! You are not the person you’re pretending to be.
Get to know Vienna and stay home with her & watch “Dancing with the Stars”!
