In a last-minute scheduling change, American Idol‘s top 10 males semifinalists will perform on tonight’s live telecast, instead of the season 9 female contestants, “due to medical issues that would prevent Crystal Bowersox from performing,” according to a Fox spokesperson who declined to say what specifically is ailing the guitar-playing front-runner. I have to admit that I did not know that “ignorant slut” was a reference to a SNL skit. Even knowing that, though, I must say that I still think that calling someone a “slut” is a bit harsh, even if it was meant in jest. So what if there’s a cultural reference? Call me a feminist, but calling someone a “slut” still comes off as aggressive.

The real point is, how is using a pop culture ref from a late night show from the 70′s relevant, appropriate or even transferrable to a ref to a 2000′s singing TV show. Whether you get the ref or not, it just doesn’t fit in this situation. You could just as easily say “Stifle it”!!!! Just because you “know” pop culture doesn’t mean it fits in and in this situation it just came off as dumb.

She’s in the hospital with diabetes complications.
If this is true, please hope that she will be ok. My son has Diabetes type 1, and it can get very serious. Performing on Idol and all that goes with it can be very stressful. I hope that she will be taken care of in the hospital. She happens to be one of the most talented of this season.

Some of these contestants have had to go through flu, colds, laryngitis, lack of sleep, etc. Don’t think they endured knowing that if they didn’t show up they were going to get the boot. it is obvious they went out of their way to reschedule because they are setting her up to be a frontrunner favorite!

Unfortunately, she is among the best. Ryan’s repeated claims that this is the best top __ (insert number) in history: pretty much a lie based on last week. She was the only standout in my book.
They’ve had others perform when they are sick, so I hope this isn’t too bad. But I hope the gus have had enough time to practice, because we know they need it.
My thoughts exactly…others have had to perform while ill, but I have to wonder if it may be something related to the dental work she’s getting done? Also, how mad would you be if you were one of the guys who was counting on having an extra day?
well when someone collapses and passes out due to elevated sugar levels in their blood that could lead to coma or internal organ shutdown, people do have a tendancy to take it seriously.

Well, it might be somewhat unfair to the boys, but it’s unfair to ALL the boys equally. And it’s not like the boys are directly competing with the girls right now, so it’s not that big of a deal. They’ll have several weeks to redeem themselves in the public eye before going head to head with the girls.

It’s not really a matter of wondering if some of the other girls would get the same deal. The definitive answer is no they wouldnt. MamaSox is one of the favorites and they want to give her some time to get better. If Tim Urban or Hayley was sick, you can be sure that they wouldnt postpone it.

It must be something more than being sick, and it must be something that can be dealt with quickly, or they wouldn’t bother to do the switch. But it’s such an easy swap to make that I would like to think they would do it for anyone if needed. Crystal’s my fav so far.

I love MamaSox, but this is REALLY unfair, and I think it will come back to bite the producers in the behind. Nothing promotes backlash from viewers then someone being treated differently then pretty much anyone else in the top 20 would be.
She has Type 1 diabetes. She was in the hospital today with diabetes related complications. I think anyone can make an exception for that.
