CNN says Anderson Cooper did not meet with CBS about anchor position

A spokesperson for CNN says that reports that Anderson Cooper met with CBS executives to discuss an anchor job at the network are untrue. “Reports that Cooper has recently met with CBS News re: an anchor position are false,” the spokesperson told EW in an email. “He is not engaged in any additional conversations with them beyond those necessary for his continuing role on 60 Minutes.” The meeting was reported to have taken place “months ago.” Katie Couric’s contract at CBS expires next year.

A CBS executive tells EW, “We’re perfectly happy with the role Anderson currently has at CBS, and we’re not talking to him or anyone else about Katie’s job.”

I like Cooper and I think Couric is gone and is going to try a talk show.

does that mean no more anderson 360 cause i really like that show?

  • chris

He needs to stay where he’s at. His personality shines on 360. You won’t see that on a nightly news program.

I agree. He’d be much less interesting chained to a desk anchoring the CBS news.

The Walter Cronkite for a new generation! I love it! Cooper brings a credibility and humanity to news that is sorely lacking. Please let this be true.

Interesting. CBS had tv’s first solo female prime time news anchor and now they could have tv’s first gay anchor. kudos!

Does Shepard Smith count? I know he’s not on a real news network, but he is an anchor.

this is a step in the wrong direction for our country

Do you have to be “GAY” to host the news now? What a load of crap. If that is the reason he gets jobs like this then that by the very definition is “DISCRIMINATION”. There are plenty of “VETERAN” reporters at CBS, that have “EARNED” that spot. If those are the standards “YOU” use, then he would better be suited at E.T., or Extra or even TMZ. I don’t care if he is a “MARTIAN” much less “GAY”. I really don’t care., but I wish certain individuals would quit expecting preferential treatment simply based upon an “EN VOGUE” choice.

CBS’s morning show has languished behind Today and GMA for decades. Wouldn’t it make sense for Katie to take that over?

Nooooooo!!! I adore AC360 on CNN…and don’t want to see him leave for something that will be more restrictive of his talent.

  • JP

He wouldn’t be good at that job he likes to report from war and natural disaster areas and CBS News is too much of a sinking ship.

Perhaps Cooper is the change CBS is looking for. He likes to be out in the field reporting. Why can’t he anchor the news from the field? ABC tried it until Bob Woodruf(sp?) was almost killed. I know I would switch to watching CBS evening news if AC was the anchor.

“Meet” could mean so many things… maybe he emailed, texted, phoned, tweeted… with them!
I think he has done all he can on CNN and should look for new things, biggah-bettah-whatevah. If he stays in his current spot he’ll be ripe for continuing Griffin-gate and that cutesy stuff he does with whatzername… he could return to some cred-worthy reporting and anchoring, with a new position. Would be a good move for him. Good luck to Anderson!

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. I’m willing to bet some sort of negotiations were going on.

Maybe it’s for 60 Minutes then? He’s have a lot more freedom to do what he wants with a spot on that show.

  • cuchieddie

I don’t watch CBS or CNN and could care less. Nobody watches those channels anyway so why even bring up the subject? AGNEW in 2012

    • vicki

cuchieddie, you need to look at the numbers. Lots of households watch those two channels. Duh!!

  • Shirley Turrentine

I think he would be a great anchor. Katie needs replaced!!!!

  • hooRah

He is such a biased reporter that anyone with common sense knows that an anchor job at CBS is out of the question. He needs to stay on the fringe of “legitimate” news.

  • Al Bundy
