Howard Stern addresses 'American Idol' rumors

Categories: TV Biz

Howard Stern said on his satellite radio show on Monday that Fox is considering him as a possible replacement for Simon Cowell when American Idol‘s tenth season begins in 2011. “There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that f—ing karaoke contest,” The Wrap quotes Stern as saying. He added, “They’d have to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough.” The shock jock was responding to a New York Post report from last Friday suggesting that he is the leading candidate to replace Cowell on the show’s judging panel in 2011. Stern’s $500 million five-year contract with Sirius XM expires at the end of this year. Cowell announced last month he will not return to Idol next year, and will instead bring his X-Factor singing competition to Fox’s fall 2011 schedule.

Stern would not elaborate this morning on the status of his negotiations with Idol, saying, “I’m not going to comment about any discussions I might or might not have had.” Last week, a source close to the show discussed the Stern rumors with EW, saying “the search has just begun, nor are there any front-runners at this time.” Furthermore, “nobody’s going to be offered a job [as a permanent Idol judge] for a while,”  the source added. “We’re doing a very thorough search.” A call to Stern’s rep was not returned.

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller expected in court today

Categories: Lawsuits

Charlie Sheen and his wife, Brooke Mueller, are due in an Aspen court today on allegations of domestic violence, the AP reports. Sheen faces arraignment charges stemming from a Christmas Day altercation with his wife in Aspen and is expected to enter a plea on suspicion of felony menacing, second-degree assault, and criminal mischief. The couple is also seeking to modify a protective order that would bar Sheen from seeing Mueller, a standard practice in cases of alleged domestic violence. Though the judge allowed Sheen to visit Mueller when she was recently hospitalized in intensive care, prosecutors declined the request to dismiss the protective order. Sheen and Mueller have said, through their attorneys, that they would like to spend time together to reconcile.

Ratings: Super Bowl XLIV could top 100 million viewers

The New Orleans Saints’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts may have scored one for the record books for CBS, according to preliminary results from Nielsen Media. The overnight results put the live viewership at an estimated 96.5 million, up 7.3 million over last year’s comparable preliminary numbers, the highest rating in 23 years — and likely to break the 100 million-mark once numbers are finalized and time-delayed viewership is added in. The high numbers were, of course, a boon to CBS’ airing of reality show Undercover Boss, whose 38.1 million viewers make it the best-rated post-Super Bowl airing since 2006′s Grey’s Anatomy.
