In an interview for this week’s EW cover story, Johnny Depp–who became a reluctant 1980s teen idol thanks to his role as undercover officer Tom Hanson on the cop show 21 Jump Street–said he is interested in the idea of possibly making a cameo appearance in the planned Jump Street movie. “I’m hoping they’ll let me do a cameo,” Depp said with a laugh. “Someone will say, ‘Whatever happened to Tom Hanson?’ and they’ll find me somewhere hoarding jars of peanut butter and shaking in my underpants.” The Jump Street movie is in development at Sony Pictures, with Jonah Hill on board to write, executive produce, and potentially star.

Please be in your underwear Johnny.
Better yet — Johnny be Out of your underwear!
I was looking forward to Alice in Wonderland.
Until I found out the Johnny Depp is playing a CLOWN in it. Tim Burton is tired. Tim Burton + Johnny Depp is exhausted.
The Mad Hatter is a clown?
Johnny Depp is a commie.
God, enough, Mr.Depp. We get it…you are quirky, odd, and strange. Now could you stop playing the same character over and over again???
He should play Rhett Butler in a Gone with the Wind remake.
Jonah Hill? Please let this not be some awful parody.
From what I read they are just using the idea of undercover cops in highschool. Diff tone.
I am really tired of this concept where reboots/remakes are using bascially the title and one sole aspect of the prior entity. This is what is being done with the “Speedy Gonzalez” movie and what happened with Miami Vice. The hoolow use of the title is just an excuse to build buzz.
Stephanie, do you think they’re doing the same thing with the Yogi Bear movie? lol
I like Depp’s idea but I don’t like the idea of Jonah Hill tackling this.
I couldn’t agree more, Jonah Hill NO THANKS!!!!
LMAO He still wants to do that peanut butter storyline. Go Johnny!
switch it up to organic almond-hazelnut butter svp!
I have to agree, Jonah is an okay actor but shouldn’t be controlling this planned movie, give it to someone who can really do it right. Depp rocks!!!!
I’m afraid I foresee some stupid revisionist comedy in the vein of the “Starsky & Hutch” movie–which actually wasn’t bad, but does every remake /reimaging have to be for laughs?
Jonah Hill? Seriously? What a horrible idea.
I like Jonah Hill and all…but seriously?
Well Jonah’s been on this project for awhile, so thats not really news to me, but I don’t see Jonah being a part of the main cast. He’ll ruin the film. Johnny in a cameo role – cool.
I can definitely see Hill in an intro type scene as a high school pot dealer getting busted.
And to everyone going crazy over Hill, he is a writer first, actor second.
Ignore the second half of my post. He hasn’t really written anything. Must have been thinking of some one else. sorry.
Can you make a parody of a parody?
jonah hill??? are you serious?? what a way to make a mockery of a good show.
Jonah hill could pass as blowfish
First of all, I agree with everyone that says Jonah Hill should not be writing this.
Second, and this is showing my true geek colors here, I’ve been watching the 21 Jump Street DVDs, and remember, Johnny Depp’s character, Hanson, was a bowler. He left after season four, and when Peter DeLuise left in season five, he said he was going to go into business with a buddy of his who owned a bowling alley, so I always imagined that Hanson and Penhall had a bowling alley together.
Maybe the new Jump Street Gang could go bowling, and the two of them show up there running the bowling alley.
im gay and i love you, jonny, so come and find me in ohio, ummm message me one day and ask for my number because your sexy and ill give it to you
And what does this have to do with the tea in China?!?!?
haha, that’s what my nana says all the time…
Lorenzo you have too much time on your hands..LOLL
So wait… look at that cover. Why put all that makeup on Johnny Depp, just to make him look like Elijah Wood?
Ha ha, the teeth! I didn’t even think about that until you said it
Lord of the …?
I really liked that joke when someone said it about a year ago.
