New 'Doctor Who' travels to BBC America in April

BBC America announced today that the network will premiere its new Doctor Who season on April 17. The sci-fi show now stars 27-year-old Matt Smith as the 11th incarnation of the time-traveling Doctor. Lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat has attracted the likes of Coraline author Neil Gaiman, Love Actually director Richard Curtis, and Torchwood scribes Chris Chibnall and Toby Whithouse to write future episodes for the series, which will be set in 16th-century Venice, 1890s France, and a distant-future United Kingdom (with the entire nation floating in space).

Thank god, it’s only delayed by a couple weeks this year! It’s so annoying to have to shut myself off from the DW parts of the internet to keep myself unspoilered for that long :D

See, I had the exact opposite reaction. The last 2 specials were only 1 day behind, which is manageable. But to have to stay off the internet for 2 weeks to avoid spoilers is just too hard.

I’m a bit disappointed and was hoping for same day or next day airings again. Thy’re just asking people to illegally download eps with this kind of delay.

Wow another white doctor is this the manifestation of the divine ? Or just the BBC emphasising only white people can become incarnations of the universal architect and other skin pigmented people are sidelined as his servants. This is the last bastion of an outdated and institutionally racist dogma, when will we see an Indian, African or Chinese doctor …….. it seems never.

Heaven forbid the next incarnate be disabled, blind, deaf or immobile… its the BBC no pc or equal ops here. I wonder if someone complained that the Dr Who post failed equality and opportunity standards set by the laws of the land. How many people did they interview for this particular role, the genders, ethnicity etc, i guess he was hand picked by the nepotistic narcissistic claque within the BBC, nvm its nice to see where our license fee aka tax is going to pay more egotistical and banal actors.

Just because the Doctor is an alien doesn’t mean he can change race or gender. There are other Time Lords of different race or gender, but the Doctor is the same person he was when it first aired. He changes appearance, not race and gender. Don’t be speciesist.

wow reginald perrin..why would we have an Indian, African or Chinese Doc?

We might have a black, someone with an Asian or Chinese backgound but not from the countries you state…

the producers cast the back actor they saw

Do you realsie that in the UK — these are the ethnic breakdowns…2% black, 4% (Asian/Indian), .4% CHINESe, .4% Other Asian 1% Mixed Race (and we use that term here)….so within that a very limited pool of actors…and disabled actors eben more..fairness means you employ the best actor…

And of the cureent population 44% would be White males..so rather a bigger pool of potential Doctors…

And the law of land here does not allow positive discrimination but the best for the job..

Most people aren’t blind, most people aren’t from an ethnic minority here in the Uk…but the show shos a wide range of representation of character and creed.. and if you would like to know there were a numbe rof black actors on the list..but Matt was the best for the shows parameters..and it is known one British black actor was considered as well (he is currently rising up in Hollywood) but it was clear he would not make a long term commitment at the right price….e.g. Mttt Smitth is getting £200,000 a year against a million which Tenant was on..the Beeb has had to cut back on salaries and budgets due to the American started global recession ( not helped by a British Government who to be frank should not have been left hold of the kitty!)

So looking forward to spring and the long awaited start of another season of Dr.Who, Matt Smith has is doing a fantastic job as the timelord after the departure of David Tennant Bravo Matt! I read prevous comment referring to long from now i hope when Matt decides to end his run as the Doctor that perhaps the 12 incarnation of the Doctor could be of another ethnic race that would be cool provided the series didn’t make every episode about that Doctor being about his ethnicity. As for a gender change that’s not needed you already have the had female timelords for all we know River Song could be one? Anyway that’s along way off to worry about who may someday take over for Matt. Until then let’s enjoy Matt’s turn as the rogue timelord Doctor, long live Dr. Who
