Katherine Heigl will be honored by ShoWest as its Female Star of the Year. Variety reports that the Knocked Up actress, who will next appear opposite Ashton Kutcher in Killers, will receive the award at the annual convention of theater owners scheduled for Las Vegas in mid-March.

Wow. The talent pool must be quite dry this year. Other than Knocked Up and the first few seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, what has she done? The Ugly Truth? The Ringer? That new Ashton Kutcher movie? I guess that I just don’t get it.
I don’t think you are probably the target audience for her movies Erik but she has been hugely succesful. Her last flick the Ugly Truth made over $200 million at the box office on a budget of $38 million. It is an industry convention and the industry likes numbers like that. 27 Dresses and Knocked Up also performed similarly well. Given that they like to give the award to someone different each year as well – it makes a lot of sense. Other leading candidates like Sandra Bullock for example have already received the award in previous years. I think she is an extremely talented actress – though not sure her choices are always the best. Some of her work in Grey’s Anatomy over the years has been exceptional.
Congrats to Katherine – well deserved. Like it or hate it Erik her rom coms have made the industry (and its an industry convention) a lot of money. I know the in thing is to take a pop at Katherine Heigl but personally I think she doesn’t get the credit she deserves. Really pleased to see her getting some recognition for making the difficult transition from TV to movies so seamlessly. She has a hugely talented, incredibly beautiful and just oozes star quality.
Love her. She needs to start making better movies though.

You people are missing the real point here, she’s honored not for movies but for making a good transition from TV small screen to a big movie screen boxoffice star. It’s has nothing to do with her comments or her speeches, it’s a successful transition hence THE “Female STAR of the year’ a TV star and a movie star judgling both. Get it!! So congratulation Katherine Heigl.
