I’m so tired of things that “boost awareness” of things that EVERYONE is aware of.

I think this is more of “keeping” awareness… they still need a lot of help over there. We tend to forget about things like this after a couple of weeks. I say kudos Idol.

Seriously, is there a hobo living beneath rock who hasn’t heard of this tragedy yet?

  • Leigh

It’s not about awareness, it’s about ACTION. Just because the earthquake was a month ago doesn’t mean the problem’s solved. Haiti deserves more support than merely being the story of the week; Haiti needs actual HELP. I think the AI promo will help remind the public that the devestation hasn’t gone away.

totally agree. if we keep haiti in the news, we can save lives. keep the push!!

It’s not really a recent trip, seeing as he hasn’t gone yet… More like upcoming trip.

It is ‘current’ news on a daily basis over there and easy to slip our busy minds- a reminder that help is still needed and a single dollar goes a long way over there, so a ten dollar donation once a month by people is a big deal- keep it in awarenss and help those fellow families.

They should do a show to help America’s unemployed & homeless not some people from other countries!!!

Um the majority of the Idol Gives Back programs that aired in previous seasons did just that.

      • dru

Um, *actually* Idol Gives Back did no such thing.

The money went to these places: Save the Children, America’s Second Harvest, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and for Africa: Children’s Health Fund, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria, Malaria No More, Nothing But Nets, Save the Children, and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

I agree. They should help the people here that have lost their jobs and homes. What about all the childred here that are starving and living under bridges or worse. Dont get me wrong, I know those people over there need help, but lets not forget the people here.

    • wWoWw

No one has forgotten the people here Judy. There are a million organizations helping the people here. The People of Haiti have nothing. Literally nothing becuae it was destroyed in the earthquake. Acknowledging others far worse off is not asking anyone to turn a blind eye to our own problems. So chill out. If you don’t want to give then don’t.

Idol gives Back is airing in April. Money is being donated to 5 charities, including Children’s Health Fund and Feeding America. See Mjsbigblog for details. There is also an interview with Kris, wherein he discusses his trip to Haiti.

Even though I agree that Haiti needs help, I find it strange that there have been more telethons and fundraisers for this disaster than ones that occurred in our own country (9/11, Hurricane Katrina).
