Alexander McQueen hanged himself, coroner says

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen died of asphyxiation after hanging himself in a wardrobe in his London apartment, a British coroner’s official said today. There was a note nearby, but the contents were not revealed. Full details will be made available in a few months. In the days before his death last Thursday, McQueen, 40, left a series of messages on Twitter indicating he was in a dark state of mind after the recent death of his mother. [AP]

    SAD, SAD, SAD!!!

  • S

Shouldn’t this headline be “Alexander McQueen hung himself”?

    • SirLizard

No, “hanged” is the correct word when you’re speaking of a person. “Hung” is used for paintings, photographs, posters, Christmas stockings and ornaments, macrame plant holders, etc. Well, it’s also used for some men too, but in a totally different context ;-)

I suppose you could say that a person was hung, but only if that person was hoisted up onto a coat hook on the back of a door, or something like that.

If you’re going to question someone’s grammar, usage, or spelling in a public forum, you should probably do your homework first.

    S,

No the past tense of hang is hanged when it comes to something like this. I don’t remember why, but my english teacher taught us that in 9th grade…

  • Sam

Actually, “hanged” is grammatically correct. According to http://www.englishrules.com, “Pictures can be hung, but people are always hanged.”

    Simply breathless.

    • Claire

That is so tasteless and disrespectful. Have you no decency at all left?

    • Jean Genie

      Sue, you’re an a$$.

How did he do it? What did he use?

I am looking for an out myself.

On a trial run it felt very uncomfortable like heavy pressure building in my head and so stopped.

There are stories of kids hanging themselves in restrooms playing a game with the roll of hand-drying cloth. David Carradine did it. You hear about it not infrequently.

I want to know the best way to hang myself. My money is running out and cannot find a job. I just hate living in this society. I want to go quickly and end the misery.

I think there is a way…it is not cutting-off the air supply…it is cutting off the blood circulation to the brain. I guess it must be a few seconds of discomfort and then unconsciousness. Probably best to use a large piece of fabric.

Runningarm, dying is forever for crying out loud! You sound way too young to leave this world. Why don’t you talk this over with the Samaritan Hotline at 1-877-870-4673.

    • Ash

‘runningarm’, Your money running out and you not being able to find a job are temporary problems. I am not trying to imply that you shouldn’t feel depressed. NO, NOT AT ALL. What I am saying is that we all at some point go through hardships. Some are harder than others, but there is always a way out, and it’s not by killing yourself. Think about your family. If you’re not close to your family, think about the future you could have. Try to live to tell the story of how you were down and out but found a way to live and be successful. Bless someone else with your testimony. I hate to hear of people committing suicide. God bless you.

      • Betty Crocker

        good advice Ash.

      • Jean Genie

Thank you, Ash. I hope what you said will help someone.

      • Jean Genie

Maybe you should follow your own advice, Feiss.

I’m sorry to hear about the rough times. Please do not take your life. There may be a few rough years, but after that you never know what joy may come. The hope for a future of joy needs to get you through this. Please do not take your life!!!! You are special to me, and I do not even know you, but I will never get to meet you if you’re gone.

    • L.T.

not to mention the indignity of being discovered with a stream of feces and urine running from your body…..

  • Jean Genie

Thanks, Betty, but he probably won’t listen to you. I think I’ve read this guy’s posts on Craigslist Chicago – very sad. Not everybody can survive a world that won’t get any better any time soon.

    • Betty Crocker

      Jean,
the world is not that bad if you have family and friends. clearly runningham is asking for help. i hope he or she listened.

      • Jean Genie

Well, bless your heart, Betty. Yeah, I’ve got family & friends myself, but it’s not easy.

  • kissyface

but was there a pickle in his arseloch?

  • Celia

I still don’t understand why he would do that. I’m sure his mother would have wanted him to continue living his life and he was one of the most respected fashion designers in the world.
