Alec Baldwin: Official explains brief hospital stay

Tags:

Alec Baldwin’s recent hospitalization “misunderstanding” stemmed from a phone conversation between the actor and his 14-year-old daughter, according to a law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press anonymously. The official said that Baldwin’s teenage daughter, Ireland, called 911 after she told authorities that her father had told her, “I’m tired of this. I’m going to take some pills. I’m going to end this.” Medical authorities went to Baldwin’s Manhattan home, and he was briefly hospitalized, but he had consumed no pills or alcohol, according to Baldwin’s spokesman Matthew Hiltzik. “This was a misunderstanding on one person’s part. Alec was quickly released from the hospital; he’s completely fine,” Hiltzik told EW in a statement on Thursday.

“Misunderstanding”. Please. He threatened to kill himself and his daughter called 911. Baldwin is an incredible talent but, boy, what a psychiatric mess. He needs to pull himself together.

    • dlauthor

Ah, the well-known and effective psychiatric treatment known as “pull yourself together.” That NEVER fails!

    • JPX

Okay, I’ll be more specific. He needs treatment for substance abuse and treatment for intermittant explosive disorder and major depressive disorder. There also appears to be some cluster B traits in the mix so a mood stabilizer might help (some).

A full diagnosis from somebody on an anonymous person an a message board. You are a true professional!

      • wakeforce

supposed to read- some anonymous person on a message board.

      • JPX

        (a) I have followed Baldwin’s exploits for years and there’s ample evidence for these diagnoses (b) yep, I am a professional.

      • Jam

do they have a treatment for posting your advice that no one wants to hear

      • JPX

Jam, obvuously people are very interested in Baldwin and I think some discussion/speculation regarding his obvious mental health issues is completely justified. You mean to tell me that you have never speculated for one second that Baldwin’s problems go beyond him being a pain in the ass? Why bother reading this article if you’re not interested in understanding what’s going on here. Baldwin is mentally ill and clearly in need of a serious intervention.

JPX: real professionals don’t dole out advice on message boards. Shut up now.

      • CMU

Seriously, JPX. I’m interested in what’s going on with Baldwin, but not in your opinion. A real professional would not think he could diagnose a person whom he has never met. That’s simply ridiculous. You have no way of knowing what’s going on in his life.

Anonymous my tush. How low will Bassinger sink?

    • ger

      Bingo!

    • jmag

I’m sure the AP actually verified the “anonymous” person was indeed a law enforcement official. What does Bassinger have to do with this? Baldwin might be an entertaining actor, but he is also a narcissist who jerks around his kid.

  • skiiboski

Exactly, that “explanation” makes it worse.

    • Sarah D

Are you the American Idol Skiiboski? Or is this a really weird coincidence??

      • skiiboski

I am not the AI guy. I just like that name and have been using it on EW for a while. The real Skiiboski apparantly is a thug of some sort with a long rap sheet.

  • Mothra

I bet he just had a headache, was taking pills to end the headache, and the daughter, being the kid of two high-strung prima donnas just wanted to get in on the drama. Yawn.

  • Brigette

He sounds like such a jerk. Poor kid.

  • Mac

He needs to just stop talking on the phone with his daughters. No good has come of it. Anybody else remember his lovely phone converstaion with his daughter last year?

  • Mari D

He was being dramatic! He’s an actor! His daughter most likely told her mother and that high-strung vengeful @#%!* told her daughter to call 911.

  • Carla

Good diagnosis, JPX! To the rest of you, Baldwin is talented, and charming, but has a long, long track record of verbal abuse to colleagues…and clearly his daughter and ex-wife. I don’t think Kim Basinger is so much vengeful as she is grateful to be away from such an abusive man (words can hurt as much as a fist), and inclined to be overly protective of her child.

  • scott

I want to like him. I think he’s really funny and an excellent actor. Unfortunately, he sounds like a jerk. What kind of parent makes suicide threats to their own children? Just yesterday, I read an article in which his friends were trying to put the blame on Kim Bassinger and Ireland. Ireland doesn’t sound like a “selfish little pig” to me. In fact, I feel sorry for her for having such a selfish bully for a father. And still, she’s a decent enough girl to call the police when she thinks his life is in danger. Kim isn’t to blame for his public woes. His character is. I hope, from now on, the only media attention he gets is for his work, so I don’t have to think anymore about what kind of person he is.

Alec Baldwin needs some serious help, to continue to do this to his daughter is very unhealthy. Of course she called 911, he threatened to take pills and end this, at least she did the smart thing and called 911, this man needs to stop acting like the 14 yr old and grow up and get some help.
