As expected, last night’s Saints-Colts match-up now ranks as the most watched Super Bowl of all time with a whopping 106.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media. The Saints’ underdog victory also beat the 1983 M*A*S*H series finale as the most watched television program of all time as measured by households, garnering 51.7 million in comparison to M*A*S*H‘s 50.2 million. The total viewership, which includes same-day DVR playback, tops last year’s Arizona-Pittsburgh game by 7.8 million viewers.

I was watching Lifetime.
I was at a Super Bowl party with the game playing. But in all honesty, one 2 people cared about the game. The rest of us were frinking and waiting for the commercials. I shouldnt count.
Well considering that ratings are only used to determine ad revenue, you and your party should probably count double.
Yeah, SBXLIV might be number one, but MASH comes out on top when adjust for inflation.
It was a decent solid game, most fans know the playoffs are usually the more interesting, but the past couple of years have been exceptions. The Caps-Penguins game was a thriller though. HAT TRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was watching “8 1/2″ on TCM (first time!).
I was driving in the middle of a snowstorm on I-80 from Chicago to Des Moines. I came back home to find out the Saints won.
Great second half. Congrats to the Saints.
I was watching Die Another Day. I don’t watch football, i watch Nascar!!!!!
“I was watching Die Another Day. I don’t watch football, i watch Nascar!!!!!”
This statement already includes 2 strikes against you. If you post a subsequent positive review of “To Paris with Love” on here later today you will be banned for life on commenting on all things pop culture.
i haven’t seen to paris with love, and i don’t to. and there is no way you can ban me from posting comments. what is wrong with watching die another day?
Maybe he thinks you should have watched Die Another Day another day.
Sadly it’s not even the worst of the Bond films.
I was on the toilet.
For three hours? Hope you had a good book.
‘ I was On The toilet’
‘For three hours? Hope you had a good book’
DEAD.
What caused the massive increase in viewers?
East coast snowstorm. Everything closed down. Plus it was a good game.
precisely
better commercials. both teams sucked.
I thought the game was actually better than most of he comercials, but then again my husband has been a Saints fan since he was a kid.
Who Dat!!!
This makes me sad for America.
This is broadcast in other countries, you know.
Other countries care about American football as much as we care about soccer.
Plus I feel Nielsen only measures US viewers but I could be wrong.
Yeah, I watched it, rooted for the Saints from the beginning and loved it. Will watch it again next year. Despite having to stay up till 4am with little to no sleep the night before, cause I live in the LDN.
Out of all things that should make you sad about America you pick people watching the Superbowl maybe your bias against football cause you took to many hits to the head.
Ryan, We watch US football. Anyway, the most watched sporting event in the world -outside of the World Cup final is the Champions League Final. ps. WHO DAT?
I caught up on Modern Family repeats on ABC
With only 25,000 homes having Nielson boxes I just wonder how accurate these numbers can be.
i watched the game, i guess that puts me in the “minority” with the other 100 mil plus
I’m with you in the minority. Great game.
I’m in the minority as well. I’m beginning to feel that since I have interest in things other than movies, TV or who wore what dress to which awards show; I don’t fit in on this web site.
that’s cool 100 million it’s almost what euro soccer or fifa soccer gets it was an awesome game and i hope the saints win again or and this is a dream and don’t laugh i hope the titan’s or bengals go to the super bowl i know it’s a dream but dreaming dosen’t cost anything.
Last World Cup (2006)average per game (excluding final) was about 450 mill. per game. Finals bring billions. Not even close.
Holy Smokes! And I’m proud to be one of the few who DID NOT watch the game. We were watching Lord of the Rings (again) on DVD.
I don’t follow football but I kinda love that there’s still something in this country that 100 million people can agree on.
AGREED! That’s also a reason I love IDOL.
i said 100 million viewers is what fifa soccer gets i should have said fifa soccer or la liga gets more than that and if they get inspired the titans or bengals can do it too.
