Frances Reid, the actress who portrayed family matriarch Alice Horton on Days of Our Lives from 1965 to 2007, passed away yesterday at the age of 95 in Los Angeles.

Days of Our Lives producer Ken Corday said in a statement: “This is a very sad day, indeed; not only for me personally, but for the Days of our Lives family and the entire Hollywood community. From day one until she taped her last scene, Frances epitomized the past, present and future of the show. Frances was truly one of a kind. Her class cannot be matched and her shoes cannot be filled…we will miss her all the rest of our days.”

NBC sent out the following tribute: “NBC is deeply saddened by the passing of Frances Reid. She was a true icon of the daytime genre and while we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her long life and the tremendous talent she shared with her generations of fans. She will be sorely missed.”

What a great actor. I remember watching her from the age of 7. My favorite scene was when she was in New Orleans helping Bo (Peter R) and Hope (Kristian A)

This is so sad. DAYS has not been the same without her.

As a 30+ years viewer of Days, I hope that the show gives Alice/Francis the tribute she so rightly deserves. The character’s strength and compassion coupled with the actress’s likability and command of the screen made her , not only central to the Day’s family, but to many of the fan’s families as well.

She will be missed. Grandma Alice was the soul of Days.

Along with Macdonald Carey, they WERE Days of Our Lives. They embodied what the original creators wanted for the spirit and vision of the show. I have the fondest of childhood memories of watching the show with my own grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

I have been watching Days since 1965. I have fond memories of Frances and always remember how most of the scene’s took place in her living room or kitchen while making donuts. I will always miss the Christmas tree trimming. It was sad when “Tom Horton” (McDonald) passed away, now Frances. I would love to see this written into the show as they did with “Tom”, for some kind of closure for the Horton family. She will be greatly missed.

I saw “Days” on the very first day. A friend and I tuned into what we expectec was another soap that had been running—it was cancelled and “Days” began. Have missed many days but always kept up.

Grand will be missed. I’ve missed seeing her in the last months.

So sad to hear of Frances Reid passing. She was such a dynamic part of “DAYS” and I’ve missed seeing her on the show the past few years. My kids will even ask when they stop over & I’m watching the show, “how’s Mrs. H doing”? I’ll be waiting for her fond farewell on the show with a huge box of tissues!!!
