Brittany Murphy's husband plans to file wrongful death suit against Warner Bros.

Categories: In Memoriam, Movies

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Simon Monjack, husband of the late actress Brittany Murphy, announced plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Warner Bros. in connection with his wife’s fatal heart attack on Dec. 20. Monjack claims in the interview that Murphy’s death was due to stress caused by WB’s alleged decision last month to cancel a contract for a voice role in the sequel to 2006′s animated musical Happy Feet. (One month earlier, Murphy had been fired from the set of the upcoming independent thriller The Caller and replaced by Twilight star Rachelle Lefevre.)

“Any claim that Warner Bros. Pictures was somehow responsible for Brittany Murphy’s tragic death is demonstrably false, reprehensible, and defamatory,” said a rep for Warner Bros. in a statement. “Despite press reports to the contrary, Warner Bros. Pictures and Ms. Murphy never entered into any deal for Happy Feet 2, and thus, there was no contract to cancel.”

When reached for comment, a rep for Monjack says he “will not be discussing his potential lawsuit further at this time.”
