MTV greenlights new series 'If You Really Knew Me'

MTV has greenlighted a new reality series, If You Really Knew Me, the network announced today. Described as a reality version of The Breakfast Club, the show follows five high school students from different social groups as they experience Challenge Day, “a transformative one-day program that breaks down barriers between cliques, curbs prejudice, and profoundly changes the way the students view both their school and each other,” according to MTV’s press release. MTV has ordered 12 episodes, with a premiere slated for the fourth quarter of 2010.

Sounds interesting. I just hope they go much deeper than the so-called cliques in “The Breakfast Club” and explore race relations/class relations with a variety of school distrincts. Not just focus on the “jocks” and “artists” at a privileged school dominated mostly by caucasians, a la the Hugh movie.

i agree momo. sometimes bullying can be worse in city schools than in suburbs. i hope they look at what cliques like in large high schools vs. small. i hope they look at bullying too and how bad it is. is there a way you can request schools?

    • Allie

oops, *sometimes bullying and cliques can be worse in city schools and big schools is what i meant.

  • Momo

Oh yeah, you’re definitely correct about that Allie. It would also be interesting to see if they interview gang members and such for this.

So what? Is EW now going to post every time MTV greenlights a series?

    • Phlash

I’d love to see a list of the shows that MTV doesn’t greenlight.

  • Sharlin

Why doesn’t it greenlight a new series called MUSIC VIDEOS

    • Sarah

      MTV just got pwned.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

They really should take the M out of MTV

  • Hannah

I have kept up with Challenge Day/Be The Change for a couple years, ever since they were introduced on the Oprah show. I cannot wait to start watching the series! A great great addition to MTV.

Haha they are at my school right now filming people. It is so funny watching then follow everyone around with the big cameras. They even filmed our battle of the classes. Sometimes it is really anoying cause people try to bring attention to themselves when the cameras are around. And all the people that they choose at my school are really mean to everyone. But then when the camera is out they suddenly act like they are the nicest people around. I don’t like it.

Chelsea, I think you should have experienced Challenge Day.

This program is just like all other mtv programs,Fake! they came to our school rearranged kids into cliques told them to over dramatize their lives and even gave some kids scripts! Apparently reality tv is becoming less and less realistic

    • Dakota

This stuff isn’t fake the callange day program(not being filmed) was at my school when I was in 8th grade at tison middle school in weatherford, tx! It’s pretty awesome but nowhere near fake

      • Bo

i go to neenah high school n ur right challange day isnt fake but i belive they were talking about the filming done outside of the official challange day because they filmed for 2 days prior to CD n yes there where scrips i saw them

  • Dakota

What day and time is the premier?

  • kandi

I think it’s an awsome program if the kid’s can absorb what is being challenged. I have three teenagers so I know what goes on in highschool these days and it’s not cool. I think all schools should start a similar program just to wakes our kids up and show them they aren’t the only ones with issues, problems, or whatever goes on in their heads. It might even teach them some sympathy, empathy, and compassion for others.

I think the show is great but much more then a show ..it seems to really touch ground on a lot of the current issues with bullying and issues kids are faced with today.
I understand MTV can not be involved in a program like this for every school but I do believe it would really benefit all kids ..starting from middle school on.
