iTunes announced via press release that it has raised over $3 million for Haiti relief through sales of the all-star Hope for Haiti Now album, individual tracks, and the telethon of the same name. The iTunes Music Store serviced the bulk of the 171,000 downloads that took Hope for Haiti Now to No. 1 on this week’s Billboard 200 chart, the first time a digital-only release reached the top spot. Funds raised were split evenly between a group of charities chosen by Hope for Haiti Now organizers.

I’m sure the warlords that run that country will enjoy the money tremendously.
Shut up, Nate. It says in the article that the money is going to charities. If you took the time to research this instead of making snarky remarks, you’d know that these charities are actually running relief efforts on the ground. This money is going towards medicine, food, and temporary shelter for Haitian citizens.
I know Robert Pattinson did lend help to the telethon, but I’m surprised they didn’t have him sing for this album – like him or not, the twihards seem to have deep pockets and it would have been a wonderful way to raise more money for Haiti.
