In a statement on their web site, Metallica responded to news that the remains of a fan, who went missing after the band’s concert in October, were found Tuesday in a remote field outside Charlottesville, Va. about 10 miles from the concert venue:
“Our most sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Morgan Dana Harrington, the 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA. Sadly, Morgan’s body was found yesterday ending her family’s three-month vigil hoping and praying for her safe return. Mere words cannot express the anguish and grief that we know her parents Dan and Gil are feeling, and our thoughts are with them.”
“If you have any information at all about Morgan’s death, please contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3425 or the UVA Police at (434) 352-3467 or police@virginia.edu.”
UPDATE: Police have confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the remains are Harrington’s.

VA State Police have confirmed thru dental records that the remains found yesterday are those of Morgan Harrington. Such a sad ending for such a bright beautiful girl. RIP Morgan.
Poor kid.
The family must have been and will continue to be going through an unwakeable nightmare.
It was a very nice gesture for Metallica to acknowledge to offer their sympathies to the family and to acknowledge her senseless death. They are a class act.
Sorry, meant to edit that….not usually a dork with grammar issues…
That sucks, Morgan’s family are in our thoughts
so sad please help them catch this horrible killer of Morgan
Metallica has been great about calling attention to this and have shown how classy they are and how much they care about their fans.
Well said
