Edward Hogg cast in Roland Emmerich's Shakespeare story 'Anonymous'

Filed under: News and tagged: ,

Edward Hogg, who starred in last year’s Sundance title White Lightnin’, is playing one of the leads in Roland Emmerich’s next film Anonymous, producers announced today. The British actor will play Robert Cecil, the first Earl of Salisbury, who was a 16th-century minister serving Queen Elizabeth I. The film is about the true author of Shakespeare’s plays. Anonymous will shoot at Germany’s Studio Babelsberg starting in March. It marks theĀ first shoot in Germany in 20 years for director Emmerich (2012).

Seems like a departure for Emmerich, but an interesting one, to be sure

So, which author does this movie claim to be the true author of those plays? Francis Bacon? The Earl of Oxford? Christopher Marlowe? This Earl of Salisbury guy? They’re not sure? I’d be interested to know which one they’re arguing for.

    “Emmerich’s Shakespeare story”?

I never knew Shakespeare had once fought off aliens (and Godzilla) while braving intensely cold temperatures as the world ended around him. Should be an interesting flick.
