Jay Leno to headline White House Correspondents dinner

Much in-the-news late-night host Jay Leno, who will take back over The Tonight Show from Conan O’Brien on March 1, is set to headline the annual White House Correspondents dinner in May, according to CNN. The organization says that Leno was booked for the gig before NBC announced his return to The Tonight Show. The dinner is an annual tradition during which the President gets a chance to joke around with press. Leno has headlined the dinner before — in 2004, 2000, and 1987.

Wouldn’t that be cool if nobody showed up?

Like soooo cooooool! Like I’m totally going to Conan’s party instead. It’s the White House dinner dumbass. expand your horizons.

    • UGH

      Wow.
You named yourself after a Mortal Kombat fighter.
      Dope.

      • SubZero

I apologize for that, Ugh. I really do. You were minding your own business and I saw an easy joke at your expense.

      • Elite

        No, the high-end fridge.

  • shannon

will the dinner take place an hour and a half earlier than normal?!

    • Alicia

AHAHHAHAHA yes. I love it. Thank you Shannon.

    • Flyer

Yes, but it will end after only the first course, when Rich Little storms in and demands the podium back.

Well, that’s going to be lame. He’s no Colbert.

    • Ambient Lite

He doesn’t write his own stuff. He’ll just be joke reading at the White House. Yawn.

    • Blue Silver

Are you serious? I understand the sour atmosphere that Jay and Conan’s media blitz has left on so many ‘haters’, but Colbert-the one who tries too hard-too desperate for laughs-that comes across as blatantly annoying?–That Colbert? That said, I will miss Conan, but I’m sure he’ll be back bigger than ever. After all, he did get his severance package….good for him. I still root for Jay! This was all the networks fault; having both joust for the sake of ratings and publicity! We should all know this by now! Jay too will bounce back once all the ‘hater’ dust settles!!

No, actually, she’s talking about the other Colbert — the funny one who exists outside your head.

  • SteveStrifeX

I will give the White House $20 if, two weeks before Leno goes on, they tell him he’s not performing as well in the ratings as they hoped and instead they’re giving the gig to Conan

    • Jim

Haaa! I am totally stealing that.

    • Ambient Lite

      Ha! Awesome.

    • Flyer

      That is BRILLIANT!

    • Molly

      Brilliant!

  • RJ

Someone send Obama a Team Coco shirt to wear that night.

  • kc

he may be hosting but he’ll get all his material from other comics. even his titanic comment from last nite was ripped from dave’s joke on monday nite

    • Flyer

Actually, I thought it was inspired by James Cameron’s comment that he’d kept the captain’s wheel from the Titanic movie set, and that it would fit in really well right next to Jay’s desk. The look on Jay’s face when Cameron said that was priceless.

  • JW

Actually, Jay is probably a good choice for this. His jokes have always been “target market appropriate.” That’s probably why he was the late night ratings champion for the last 17 years – regardless of whether the people slamming him on message boards think.

  • BOYCOTT

****THE JAY LENO TONIGHT SHOW BOYCOTT BEGINS MARCH 1ST 2010 – LONG LIVE COCO!!!!****
