Crime novelist Robert B. Parker has died at age 77 at his Cambridge, Mass. home. The AP reports that local police believe his death was from natural causes.
Parker wrote more than 50 novels including 37 featuring the famed tough-talking Boston private investigator Spenser, the basis for the 1980s TV show Spenser: For Hire. The latest Spenser book was 2009’s The Professional.

Oh no! That is so sad. I have read all of his books. No more Spenser. My consolences!
RIP Robert. My dad and have spent hours talking about his books.
It’s impossible to believe that, after all these years, there won’t be any more new stories with Spenser and Susan and Hawk. He was a great, great writer and he will be missed. My condolences to his family.
I am sure that Hawk, Chief Stone and Sonny Randal will continue the investigation to show that Mr. Parker’s death was faked to look like natural causes …
WOW. Very very sad. A great author, and although all the series listed above are great, can I just throw in a word and say that I’m also sad there will never be more than 3 books featuring Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch. What a great trilogy that was.
actually I think we have a Jesse Stone next month, a Virgil/Everett book in May and one more Spenser at some point this year
Well thats good to hear but the posthumous novel is always a little sad
How sad we loved the cast we met along the way. Thank Robert for all the hours of adventure you gave us.
The only people grieving more than me would have to be Susan and Hawk. This is so sad.
Very sad. I will miss that cool sarcasm.
Had the honor of meeting Robert. He was a wonderful man and author. He will be missed by so many. I loved his books. Spenser, Sunny, and Jesse were my favorites.
I introduced my husband to the Spencer books some years ago and we have been sharing the wonderful experience ever since. We, as well, will miss the interplay between Spencer, Hawk and Susan and the humor that surrounded them all. Our hearts go out to his family. He will be missed.
So sad to think of a world w/o Spenser’s adventures continuing. R I P RBP & condolences to his family.
Carol, it’s SpenSer, with an S

“Like the poet.” :’(
This is so very sad. I’ve read all of his books and just started rereading the Spencer books from the beginning. It’s been interesting to see the changes through the years (in the book I’m reading now Susan is actually cooking!) This is so very sad. I wish I could have met the man. My thoughts are with his family. He will definitely be missed.
I WILL MISS SPENSER, HAWK AND JESSE TOO MUCH. I’VE READ EVERY BOOK THE MAN HAS WRITTEN. MANY CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY.
