I think a big part of the problem was that Jay was bombing at 10 so people were watching other things, staying there for the news and not switching to Conan.
I’ve always thought Dave was funnier than Jay, but I liked Conan as much as Dave. I watched Jay only for his guests, but I’m not watching him any more.
Most of these popular late night shows only work after a year or two on the air. They didn’t give either show enough time and its ridiculous.
Conan gave a really classy statement and if Fox offered him a show, I’d watch it!

I’m so happy to see Conan go off late night. He’s not funny. Jay is the next best thing to Johnny Carson I’ve seen. Get over it Cry Baby Conan

I agree with Mr. Scott on this one. I have been forced to watch Letterman whom I dislike because of Conan.

I for one like Conan, he reminds me so much of myself including his wild and crazy actions towards other people. I’m proud to say I’m the best sheriff in the whole country. VanBuren County State of Michigan

i think its funny how everyone thinks their opinion matter on the net, and that people actually care.

Conan was painful to watch. Even on the late show but nothing else was on so I may have watched him 5 times. Rarely made it thru an entire show as reading a book was more enjoyable. Never watched him on the Tonight show. Whether they got Jay or some new guy, Conan needed to go. Wish him the best but his comedy isn’t for me.

Should have said ‘never watched him longer than 10 minutes on the Tonight show’. I did check him out to see if things had improved. They hadn’t and I wasn’t at all shocked by him leaving. Leno struggled with a prime time slot limiting his jokes and viewers struggled to like Conan. Some of you might feel better had Jay refused, but I believe they would have replaced Conan regardless. Fallon is better than him.

Personally I feel NBC is making a stupid terrible mistake canceling conan’s show. I honestly feel that at some point in the near future they will regret canceling his show. I sure hope another network picks up conan and gives him another show. Either was Jay Leno has no talent and I dont intend to watch him ever.

Conan would still be at NBC if his “edgier, hipper material” was actually funny. Most likely, NBC execs never got it but they figured the younger audience did. I’m in the 35-45 range someone mentioned and I never got his comedy. Someone said he’s so NOT funny it’s mind boggling. My thoughts exactly! If not Jay, Jimmy Fallon or someone else would have replaced Conan sooner than later.

  • Dee

Oh, and for the record, Jimmy Kimmel is better than both of them!!!

This was just business as usual, o’brien was killing the show fast – several months from now there would have been no show! Leno is dated but people do watch him, I don’t think too much will be offered to O’brien now because he was shown he can’t match up with Letterman or Leno! As far as the ratings when Leno took over from Carson they dropped slightly but not close to half. Sad to see O’brien leave late night, but pride was just too much to go back!! I hope this is not an end of the O’brien era.

I hope Conan and his staff after making this move to California stay here and start working on a show most likely FOX at 11:00pm PT
Do a 90 minute show like Steve Allen and Johnny Carson did for many years. Conan would sink those two old farts Letterman and Leno.

If Leno is a bigger draw then that tells us alot about how shallow Americans are. Who really thinks Leno is funny? I am guessing, he is just “safe”. It’s easy to tune in to Leno and mindlessly take it in, it like the difference between Safeway and Trader Joes. Michelob or PBR (I prefer Guiness)
Conans humor is lost on most of the mainstream because the mainstream are sheep with no depth or level of appreciation for absurdity and its been going on for so long no one wants to change the “boringness” of it all. alot of older people are like “what?!” They don’t get it. Conan is for the youthful spirits.
