As earlier reported in the Ausiello Files, Showtime, whose fourth and final season of the bodice-ripper The Tudors will premiere this spring, announced plans for a new historical drama. In his first regular TV series role, Oscar winner Jeremy Irons will play Rodrigo Borgia, the head of a prominent Italian Renaissance family accused of every possible dastardly crime. Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) will direct. The network plans a spring 2011 premiere.

Jeremy Irons? Yes, please!
Wow. This is almost worth getting Showtime for. Truth to tell — they need to hire Alejandro Jodorovsky for the writing staff. He and Milo Manara did a weird/cool graphic novel trilogy called ‘Borgia’ that would make excellent television.
The Borgias make the Tudors look like the Bradys.
I think the success of this show hangs on who they cast to play Lucrezia.
I was wondering about that myself.
Asia Argento as Lucrezia. And Vincent Cassel as one of the Borgia sons.
Asia Argento would be a GREAT Lucrezia.
Also Monica Belucci, perhaps?
I cannot wait for this! Jeremy Irons is PERFECT as Pope Alexander VI
i know… he is SOOO fine!!!
Wow,, looks interesting. Hope the cast is as good as the cast of Tudors. The show could be hot.
I think the Lucrezia casting is important, but I think Cesar’s could really pull the whole thing together. What a great show to start after the excellent job they did with the Tudors.
Nicole Kidman as Lucrecia. Just kidding.
