The media blitz is working. MTV’s controversial series Jersey Shore posted its best ratings to date on Jan. 7. The reality show attracted over 3.2 million viewers, a series high, and was Thursday’s No. 1 cable telecast among persons 12-34. The show is up more than 200 percent versus last week’s telecast and is also up 68% percent versus its season-to-date average in the young demographic. The show, which critics contend builds on negative stereotypes and bad behavior, follows a group of people renting a beach house at the Jersey Shore.

I am riveted by this piece of trash show. It is awesome. Snookie is the #1 quotable reality show person of the year. I just love her.

Love Snookie to death but Mike is the situation that makes that show roll. When the brunette hottie arrived and Mike looked down to see her coming with some more girls, his words were(parphrasing here), there’s a cutie headed our way but she’s got two huge body guards….. The Grenade and The Grenade Launcher. He and Pauly D have me in tears every week. Still, it’s a great show, a fun show, and despite all the teen angst, and drama on the boardwalk, these kids love each other, they love and respect family, and they have good hearts. Kudo’s to “the Situation” on his cooking skills. He’s a true artist in the kitchen. Also a big shoutout for turning Michael Cera into a guido. Loved that. I’ve never been to a Michael Cera movie but I’m going to see this one thanks to all his hilarious Guido moments on mtv this week.
It makes me so, so sad that the only thing that got you to go see a Michael Cera movie is this show. Juno? Superbad?

Michael Cera has had a great career – for the past few years. He started out on the TV show – with Jason Bateman and Portia De Rossi – I loved the show – but right now I cannot remember the name of it-it’s very late at night…anyway – He is one funny dude – rent Juno , and Superbad – to see what I mean. I plan on seeing this new movie, Youth in Revolt – during the next week or so.
Arrested Development is the name of the show & it is absolutely hilarious!
Agreed. The Grenade and Grenade Launcher line had me rolling. As did Pauly telling Snookie, “A good man is hard to find….that’s why I date women.”

I never watch Real World or whatever, but I love Jersey Shore.
It’s basically the real world but instead of the diverse cast it’s Italians. Young kids having fun. Sure all the guys are sexist jerk-offs but that’s representative of most guys, not italian guys!!!
Best show ever! Every week, I laugh harder at Snookie and the gang than I do at any scripted comedy.
I am not surprised by the HUGE ratings. This show is very entertaining – and has some unintentional laughs – each and every week. I am older – and from the West Coast – and I am so entertained by the Young Italians, from the East Coast. The show is addicting .

Turning 29 this year and I love this show. I’m with another poster. I hate The Real World but I love Jersey Shore.
I’m 55 and hooked. What I love about the show is that for a reality show, it doesn’t come across as staged. The cast is very natural in their behavior and interactions. I find that very refreshing.
36 and love this show–granted my IQ drops a couple of points after viewing but oh well…
negative publicity= name recognition + curiosity + media blitz= ratings
they could go to all 50 states and do a show about the people there that’ll be different spins on the folly and bizarre-outrageousness factor that JS delivers. Look what washed up on the beachsome more vidiotic pollution.

Mary, do you have anything constructive to say? Because all you’ve accomplished so far is bashing other people for liking a show. It would be different if it was something terrible like NCIS, but this show is hilarious and entertaining. Go back to bitterland, we don’t want you here.
