FX has struck a deal for basic cable rights to James Cameron’s Avatar, Variety reports. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed but Variety reports that FX paid an estimated $25-$30 million. Avatar can start airing on FX around the middle of 2012. HBO has the pay cable rights to air it before basic cable.

Oh how exciting! That means in 2 years I can watch an edited, full-screen version of Avatar with commercials and no 3D effect. Is there any human being out there who still watches movies on commercial television? In the age of Netflix and cheap DVDs it just seems silly to watch a vastly inferior version of a movie on cable.
