Artie Lange released from hospital after suicide attempt

Artie Lange has been released from Jersey Center Medical Center, where he underwent surgery last Saturday after his mother found him in his Hoboken, NJ apartment with nine stab wounds to his abdominal area from a 13-inch Wolfgang Puck kitchen knife, police confirm. “At this point, we’ve deemed it to be self-inflicted and attempted suicide,” Hoboken Det. Lt. Mark Competello tells EW. “There’s no criminal investigation.”

    • steph

lol! too funny…take a bit of your own advice there buddy!

  • TVAddict

Artie, don’t kill yourself. But if you must, there are far less painful ways to do it.

  • Ambient Lite

Sad stuff. And extremely hard core, I mean if you have the cajones to actually stab yourself 9 times, it’s not a cry for help – you’re serious about it. I hope he can work this out and get better.
Odd that it was mentioned that it was a Wolfgang Puck knife…branding, it’s everywhere!

    • Melissa

I agree about the knife. A knife’s a knife’s. The only thing i need to know is if its a butter knife or not. Now that would be hard core.

    • Talia

Everywhere I’ve seen this story they leave in that specifier about it being a Wolfgang Puck knife. Good lord. The product placement in Biggest Loser suddenly seems subtle.

    • %

My sentiments exactly about the knife, was this a suicide attempt or a advertising ploy??

      • %

        Meant “AN advertising ploy”

      • Crocodile Dundee

        Now that’s a knife!

  • Silent Rage

I didn’t realize this guy try to off himself, no sympathy for this FF whatsoever, I guess I’m happy for his mom though

  • Al

I’m glad he didn’t have higher quality knives or he wouldn’t have made it.

    • Egnal

Yeah, imagine if he had used a Ginsu.

  • F Artie

Stabs himself in the abdomen as a suicide attempt? So, the guy is woefully unfunny and he can’t even kill himself properly. What a bonehead. Next time, he should try listening to tapes of his “comedy”. That ought to do him in

    • DiVanzo

F Artie, if you don’t like him on the show, just listen to the Joke Hunt on a loop after your done listening to Seacrest.

      • F Artie

Learn how to spell (your and you’re are not the same), allow that other’s have opinions that differ from yours, and go send Artie some flowers from your garden.

        Jackie/Artie = Apples/Oranges.

I’m hoping Howard signs back with Sirius before the end of this year.
He might want to convince Artie to resign in the meantime. Just so the guy can get some real help. If Howard stays on for a few more years and Artie is able to conquer his problems, then give him a shot to come back.
        Otherwise, move on.

      • Dave

F Artie, spelling flames are oh-so-lame. Please criticize my hyphen usage – you know you can’t help yourself.

    • Smarty Pants

Actually, F Artie is wrong. DiVanzo was guilty of a grammatical error and not a spelling error. Similarly F Artie shouldn’t have put an apostrophe after “other” because he intended to show a pluralization rather than ownership. Bottom line, F Artie is an assclown.

    • tony

Its sickening these computer “Tough Guys” make such heartless statements about people they dont even know!! I mean damn, if you dont like him..dont comment!!! I can only imagine how much of an antagonizer you are in your pathetic reallife

      • DiVanzo

I agree. I just hate people wishing ill will on those that are enjoyed by so many.

      • !!!!!

Sorry. You don’t get to choose who comments or not. No where does it say “Comment ONLY if you love Artie Lange, and have happy positive things to say”.

    • shell

I can not believe all of you heart less ASS HOLES talking about artie like that! A man tried to kill himself and all most of you can do is say evil things about him. I hope you all go straight to hell.

  • MultiPass

Damn that is sad. I cannot imagine the despair one must feel to get to that level.

  • JusttheFacts

If you want to use a knife, you slice open a carotid artery. You’re dead in about a minute; with his BP, much sooner I’m sure.

  • Puh-lease…

I’m hoping Artie conquers his demons in some way but I wish he would go ahead and resign from the Stern show.
He’s too undependable and when he is on, there’s too much drama with him.
I wish Howard could hire George Takei full time to replace Artie.
Artie, be well and get some help.

  • @Puh-lease

“I wish Howard could hire George Takei full time to replace Artie.”

    Right on!

  • Cheerleader for Drug Deaths

    right on, again.

  • JPX

Artie has borderline personality disorder (among other psychiatric problems) and suicide attempts are common with this diagnosis.

  • Nikki

Are you guys kidding me? Sure Artie should take a few months off but not resign. Did you listen to this week w/o him? It sucks. They spend so much time on stupid Benjy. I LOVE Artie. Give me a call big poppa, I’m a jersey 10, LA 8.

    • rerun

Well if they get rid of Artie, they’d get a replacement. And seriously, for his health, it might be the best alternative.

      • Beiber

I hope Arnie stays get better sson arnie

  • Kevin

    Somewhere Joe Buck is smiling.

    • Buffy Freak

Um, no he most assuredly is not….Artie is the only publicity that lame show of Buck’s has gotten. And if Buck was so pissed at Artie, why did they have him back in a taped segment for the second episode?

  • vlynn930

wow some people are so freakin heartless. Like him or hate him, you shouldn’t make light of what is obviously an extremely serious situation. Don’t think because he has money that all of his mental problems automatically disappeared. In the past few weeks we have seen a few celebs who seemingly had everything turn up dead. Money doesn’t solve everything and it certainly doesn’t make you automatically sane.
