Roman Polanski has asked to be sentenced in absentia for charges relating to a 1977 incident in which he had sex with a 13-year-old girl, according to The LA Times. Polanski is currently under house arrest at his chalet in the Swiss town of Gstaad. The judge in the case is expected to rule on the request on Jan. 22.

What does “sentenced in absentia” mean?
It means he wants to find out what his sentence will be before he comes to the U.S. so he can decide whether to serve it or to run for France.
If he’s trying to dodge coming to the US now, he’ll try to dodge it forever. Haul him back. With all due respect to everything this man has accomplished and been through over the years, he confessed to a crime and should pay the price.

He drugged, then raped, a 13 year old GIRL. Seems a bit more serious than drinking under age. Why should he not have to pay for his crime?

Richard, that is very juvenile for you to think. Victims want to forget about the abuse they suffered and leave it in the past, which is certainly understandable. But then the perps get away with it, which is not the way it should be. He SHOULD have to pay for the crime he committed, lest another rape victim let their perp get away with their crime.
