'Eclipse': Purported script hits Internet

A purported script for Eclipse, Summit Entertainment’s third Twilight film, has landed on the Internet. The studio would not confirm whether the 112-page draft is authentic, but a source close to Summit tells EW that the document being circulated is not a final shooting script. The name of actor Jackson Rathbone (pictured) is watermarked onto the pages of the script. Rathbone’s manager did not respond to a phone call seeking comment. Last May, a draft for New Moon popped up online, and that sequel went on to earn $683 million worldwide (and counting).

The leak follows reports, denied by Summit, that the much-anticipated film screened for test audiences last weekend. Eclipse is set to release this June.

Omigod, Noooooooooo! What next? A book with even more details?

    • TheObserver

lol. seriously these people need to relax. everyone who goes to see the movie has read the books…it’s no biggie

      • Amythest

Hey, at least they’re supposed to….so many people got obsessed as they saw the movie and didn’t realize that people read and liked Twilight before the movie…

    • UGH

Shouldn’t “script” be in quotes in the title.
      Ha-Ha.

      • Quirky

Yes, just like the word “Vampire” should be in quotes also.

      • :D

OHMYGOD Quirky tell me aboutt itt!!!! lol

    • Buzz

wow , some more undeserved prepublicity….
      the big story surprise ending?
      All the vampires and werewolves
      transform into Mormans..

      • Michael

        LO-Freakin-L. Hilarious.

      • Celia

LOL! Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t the “script” been “leaked” before all those twilight movies. Who cares?

      • ann

if you’re going to rag on the Mormons – at least spell it right – idiot.

    • jared4ever

I am SOOO BORED with EW’s coverage of the whole Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse garbage. You must think the average age of your readership is 12. Please stop already!

      • Nikki

If you’re so bored with the coverage why post a comment here? Why not actually write a letter to the editor??

I’m quite annoyed with the assumptions that everyone who likes the books or the movies of this series are morons or 12-year- olds–I’m neither. I like a wide variety of genres…but just because I like this one doesn’t mean I’m an idiot–I’m an individual.

    • Andy

I think most people are actually shocked that these horrible crappy movies actually have a script. I thought everyone just went to a forest somewhere and just stared at each other with no shirt on……surprised it takes a writer and a script for that.

      • Gazza

I accidentally caught a glimpse of a page the leaked script, and thought it was RIVETING, much better than the books.

And I’m not even being sarcastic. Seriously.

      • Gazza

well, I was being sarcastic about the riveting part… but seriously, it’s better than reading the book.

  • crispy

OMG, now people will know how it ends!

    • Rock Golf

      That line is soooo 10:02!

      • crispy

LOL Great minds, my friend. Great minds.

  • Marie

it’s too bad the script for each of the twilight films have sucked regardless, or else this might actually be real news.

    • Heather2

Yeah, it’s amazing how much Melissa Rosenburg sucks a$$, but is still hired to do the last film.

  • jUAN

WHO CARES? THIS MOVIES SUCK ANYWAY!!

    • bdt

      whatever get a life

  • Ambient Lite

This wasn’t a big deal when Anna Kendrick’s New Moon script was discovered, and it’s not this time either. The story’s not a secret and seeing the script (not even a final copy, btw) wouldn’t keep fans from seeing the movie.
Now, can someone please tell me how to get into that test audience?!?

  • JPX

Who cares? These films are just awful. It depresses me that this film series is so popular. The masses are asses.

    • mishka

      Agreed, I thought 2010 was a NEW year, people…
New Moon/Eclipse scripts always end in the garbage can just because it’s where they belong. It’s not as if Jessica or Jasper have a lot to say in those movies…In fact, who really does? I can write that script myself and direct the movie! “Action! Taylor, show your abs! Kristen, bite your lips! Robert, stare! The others, gravitate! And…CUT! Now, show me the money!”

      • Heather2

        And your point is?

    • Jilly

I loved TWILIGHT and absolutely hated NMoon. Yech. Awful. So now I don’t care about Eclipse or BDawn unless Catherine Hardwicke directs BDawn. I love the books, & my TWILIGHT DVD, & the 2 soundtracks from TWILIGHT: Carter Burwell’s genius score and the songs, including Rob’s “Never Think.” So that’s it for me with this franchise. I’m done. Guess I WAS a Twihard but am now just a fan of Catherine Hardwicke and Stephenie Meyer.

  • OMG

I CAN’T WAIT TO READ THIS TO FIND OUT HOW MANY DULL, LASTING GAZES EDWARD AND WHATS-HER-FACE PULL OUT IN THIS SCRIPT!

    • Gazza

      ‘whats-her-face’? ROFLMAO

  • jc

I can’t believe David Slade is directing this crap.
He must be hard up for name-recognition.
    Sad.

    • Ambient Lite

Or maybe he thought it was GOOD and something he wanted to be involved in. I would guess you haven’t read or seen any of it, it’s just fun to jump on the hater bandwagon.

      • Celia

No jc is right. It sucks. He must’ve just wanted to get his name out there. That’s the only explanation for the same guy who directed 30 Days of Night to do a pathetic twilight film.

    • jc

      Hahahaha.
      That’s a good one!
      He thought it was good!
      Hahahahaha.

      • Ambient Lite

He wouldn’t have taken it on if he didn’t think it was good. Duh.

      • Jen

More likely he’s after the name recognition and the paycheck. But if you want to think he’s in it for the quality (lulz), go right ahead.

      • Heather2

Yes, because David Slade seems like the type to go after something to make a name. *Rolling eyes* Summit sought him out and asked him to do it because Eclipse is much darker from the rest of the books.

      • May S

Please. As if. Let me tell you why he did it, Ambient Lite and Heather2 – for the money, for the money and… for the money! Read the “source material”. There is nothing salvageable from that crock called Twilight.

  • Erica

I want to take a time-machine to the future in a few years’ time where all of this Twilight garbage will be in the past and the only recognition this hypocritical magazine will give it is in a “guilty pleasures” article.

    • @Erica

Amen. I’ve subscribed to EW long enough to know that in probably 5-10 years, Twilight will be relegated to the “What the hell were we thinking?” pile.
Of course, this is also the same magazine that ripped on Avatar’s story, until it made a hell of a lot of money and now they’re kissing its ass. Bunch of vultures.

  • Puh-lease…

Do Crispy, Ambient Lite, and Heather2 have jobs?
They sure do post on anything and everything waaaaaaay too much.

    • Ambient Lite

Or maybe we’re here as often as you are, but don’t hide our postings behind a hundred different monikers. Coward.

    • Heather

Wow, I feel loved … well a little bit. My Twilight obsessed reputation precedes me.
Eclipse script .. meh. I know what happens. Could it be that Bella finally choose Edward? You don’t SAY.
I would rather see a Rob and Kristen s*x tape leaked personally. :P

      • Ambient Lite

Oh, Heather – that makes one of us! ;)
BTW, do you think they could have used a worse pic of Jackson Rathbone??

      • Heather2

My 2 didn’t show up. Dangit. Oh well.
No kidding. They always pick the worse photos of the cast on here.
I hope you know I was kidding about the s*x tape thing.

      • Ambient Lite

        Oh, I knew it was you… ;)

    • crispy

I don’t. I am homeless and using the internet from a library computer. The other patrons keep complaining because I smell like onions and keep taking my pants off.

      • Heather2

Bahahahaha. Yeah, I can only afford this computer. So as to annoy you guys and stare at pictures of Rob and Kristen all day long.

      • Ambient Lite

ha ha ha crispy, the homeless guys at my library usually smell more like pee and walk around mumbling to themselves about how brilliant James Cameron is…

      • crispy

        Do they sparkle?

      • Ambient Lite

        heh, you win

      • Puh-lease…

Two of you didn’t admit you’re unemployed for the record.

      • crispy

They belong to my harem. I keep them busy in other ways.

      • Heather2

I am apart of Crispy’s harem? Yes!!! Will Kristen be there?
Puh-lease, I told you what I do, and you don’t believe me? I am a Twilight fan, so obviously I am 14, romance deprived, and have no taste in men. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. :(

      • Puh-lease…

        14?
        Geez.
        I feel creepy.

      • Ambient Lite

Part of the crispy harem? Okay, I’m down with that.
What do you do (besides meddling and trolling in disguise), Puh-lease? Never mind, I don’t care.

  • Rob

And the big deal is? If you read the book you know what happens. If your lazy and don’t want to read it then you go to Wikipedia and read the short version.

  • Heather

I know most of you clearly don’t care, but the big deal is this. The movies are nothing like the books. They leave all kinds of stuff out, dialogue that is important to the overall story, and large gaps of storyline. Which would be the main reason why Twilight and NM the movies pale in comparison to the books themselves.
So, for Twilight fans, this is major spoilerage to the upcoming movie.
Just saying. Now here comes the replies. Bring it. I’m not skeered.

    • Brooke

You have a point there. Even in things like Harry Potter, things are changed from book to movie script.

Still, I highly doubt that the leaked script is going to stop fans from going to the movie; just as I doubt that, had Meyers ever finished Midnight Sun, it wouldn’t have sold millions of copies despite the leaked manuscript online.

Having said that, can the Twilight saga just die now, already?

      • Heather2

For my sake, please no. I would die a sad death. No more Twilight? There might as well be no more sunlight.

      • Lori

Hate to break it to ya, but according to Meyers website, as of last month, she IS completing Midnight Sun. If you don’t get why the books/movies are popular, that’s ok. They obviously weren’t done with you in mind. Why not let those who DO find them enjoyable just, well, ENJOY them? What’s it to you? Last time I checked, no one was forcing you to watch the movies, read the books, or even comment on articles about them. So, you don’t have to ‘suffer’ through them, and no one else has to suffer through the incessant bitching and whining of those who don’t ‘get it’.

    • Chip H

You have a point, but it’s a rather small one. Yes, the novel and the movies only strongly resemble one another, they are not 1:1 copies. However, your point really only matters if you assume the main reason any Twilight fan is going to the movie to see how it’s different than the book it’s based upon. Otherwise, people are going to see the same basic story they already know portrayed on screen with attractive actors and decent enough effects, neither of which are in any way spoiled by the script being leaked. Heck, the original script for Avatar was leaked several years ago, and between the movie and the tie-in materials, the majority of what was in the scriptment is indeed what came to pass, but I don’t see how it’s negatively impacting box office or audience enjoyment of that IP.

      • Heather2

Oh, I wasn’t arguing about the box office. I completely agree. I am sure that I will go see Eclipse just as many times as I have seen New Moon. And if I sat here and said that I only go see the Twilight movies for the basic storyline, well you know I would be struck by lightning.
I still don’t know what Aro says while Felix is holding Edward. :P

      • Ambient Lite

Felix says to Edward “you’re sort of beautiful”, the Aro says “how hard did you hit your head”. heh
Now I don’t want to out you if you’re not ready H2, but how many times DID you see New Moon? Just wondering.

      • Heather2

Ambient Lite, the one time in the film that I did not look at or care about Stewy. Umm … let’s just say a lot. It’s too easy for the critical mass to hate on me if I admit to that.
I could pretty much reenact the entire film at this point.

      • Ambient Lite

Yeah, I don’t want to set you up to be an H2 punching bag for the hater brigade, I was just curious. I only saw it twice in the theater (and I liked it), and I’m sure I’ll catch it again on video prior to seeing Eclipse.

  • Harry Potters better 5.5 billion and counting

Wow my prayers are answered. Maybe this crap will die. And I dont have to see it on another stupid magazine with those ugly pathetic cracked heads on it. Thats all they look like. Personally I dont give a good GD if Rob and Kristen are together or not. The only reason this makes money is because of hormonal girls and sex deprived women.

    • Trish

LOL, I don’t think any of us expected Twilight to “beat” Harry Potter. I think Twilight fans are just amazed that New Moon made around as much as the HP films, domestically.
And Eclipse is going to have a summer IMAX release, which will further increase its gross.
And this is coming from someone who doesn’t even like the movies (I love the books though).

    • Ambient Lite

I can count on two things whenever EW posts anything about Twilight:
      1) Haters will hit it like a fat kid on cake, ready to make personal attacks against the fans, which something I’ll never understand. Hate the series? Fine. But to call fans “hormonal girls and sex deprived women”? Why?
      2) Harry Potter fans, nearly as venomous, will turn up to draw some sort of comparison between the two series, then continue on to attack Twilight fans. Have you noticed that Twilight fans don’t show up on Harry Potter articles and make fun of you? I mean, how is the wizardry bandwagon any more noble than the vampire one? You’re so busy gagging on Harry’s wand that you can’t see the hypocrisy.
I personally enjoy both series and wouldn’t draw comparisons between the two any more than I would, say, Dora and Mickey Mouse. Don’t take yourself so seriously.

      • ani

eh, the comparison would be more like Dora and …Harry Potter. I dont see why people would even compare Twilight to HP. As much as I loved Twilight, HP is so far beyond it in quality, there is no point in comparing. And btw, Bella is one of the most self-absorbed characters I have ever read about. WhatThe books talk about how deep she is, but everything about her is superficial. And let’s not talk about the snoozefest that is Edward+Bella together.

      • Ambient Lite

Thanks for making my point about HP fans, ani.

      • DB

Of course Twilight fans won’t show up on HP articles to comment. You only get a couple articles of HP when a movie comes out compared to the dozens articles that Twilight gets when a movie isn’t even out. Besides, some are too busy reading Twilight articles to think about reading non-Twilight articles. Of course, not you Ambient Life, I’ve seen you’re name pop out in the comment section of non-Twilight articles.

    • LAJackie

Hey! I’m sex deprived and I’m not lusting after RPatz. Don’t go lumping us sex-deprived housewives into the same barrel thank you very much.

      • Heather2

Hale I’m not sex-deprived at all, but still lust after Rob AND Kristen.

      • Nikki

I’m more into the men not boys: like Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Cudmore, Alexander Skarsgard, Kellan Lutz…etc big difference. I’d much rather lust after them…not the boys even if I love the movies or the books.

  • Harry Potters better 5.5 billion and counting

I meant crack heads not cracked heads, and if you dont know what GD means figure it out.

    • ani

Normal people don’t use the phrase “give a good GD”. i’m also a bit embarassed that you have Harry Potter in your title. I expect more of Harry Potter fans, much more than of twilight fans. You are doing us a disservice.

    • @ani

I agree with you. To the dude above, only the most ardent Kool-Aid drinkers think Twilight is in any way superior to HP. Stop debating it and giving Meyer’s hack trash credibility it doesn’t deserve.

  • Emily

The Twilight franchise can’t stand to be out of the news for more than 1 week.
