Oscar winning director Sam Mendes (Away We Go) is in talks to direct the 23rd chapter in the James Bond franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007 in the project, which is currently being scripted by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) in collaboration with Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon). The movie is tentatively slated for release in 2011.

I hope the new Bond film will be everything like Casino Royale or better, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like Quantum of Solace. geez, QoS was a huge disappointment.
And I concur: Kate Winslet for Bond girl! Yes, she was in Titanic (the highest grossing film of all time, unsure about inflation tho’), and has won an Oscar already, but this will be a fun, and lucrative film to do. It’ll expose her to an even wider fanbase; the type of people who haven’t seen The Reader, Eternal Sunshine…, Revolutionary Road, etc (in case it’s been too long for those people since Titanic).
Cool! I’m a big Sam Mendes fan. And while I agree that Kate Winslet would be an interesting choice as Bond girl (like a few people here are pointing out), I don’t know if I can see her paired with Daniel Craig. But I honestly would watch Kate in anything so I really don’t care.

Mendes is a hack. A hack I tell you, his movies are sterile and stilted projects (the exception that proves the rule is Road to Perdition) devoid of emotion and impact. I’ll still see it cause I love the Bond series but this is distressing.
